Idea for a NextGen system....
Alright, let's get down to brass tacks. The system: The REC. Recreational Entertainment Center. Got it? Good. Prodominant feature: a sound card so incredible it makes PS3 and Xbox 360's sounding like old 8-tracks. Graphics: About as good as PS3. Launch window: anywhere from 2007-2014. Ya dig?
All my ideas are genius. Don't even try to comprehend my superior logic.

Yeah, let's get to work
!! Man, this is gonna be great!!
Yeah, um, Microsoft had a hard enough time entering the home console business, and look at their resources! I hope you don't have a high expectancy for this idea to go through....Would be nice, though

Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

lol, wow I'm psyched! For the graphics chips we could use potato chips and make it cheaper than even Xbox!!! And for controllers lets use a straw in a McDonalds cup, it would make a neato joystick and be cheap! For sound effects just stick some midgets in there and tell em what game sounds to make! So cool!
Sorry, sorry, just having some fun.

Come on, G. Don't be a jerk. You use potatos for power. Duh. Graphics would be a TI-85 mobo with car jumper cables attached from it to the capacitor of the CRT TV. The cotroller would be an NES controller, but cut off the wire, this stuff is wireless! Sound would be my CD player and you could play any game you want on it! Atari 2600 to xbox 360. Yeah man!

Hot dog!
Anyway, the system would be totally wireless. there would be a power cord that would be the only cord, with an optional power port in the back to plug in the wifi AV reciever. This system would be good enough to render almost flawlessly the human voice (however, nothing else could be done with the system while it did render the voices, so better stick with High-def sound files)! Anyway, The controllers could act like a handheld game device. They would be about as powerful as a ps2, with a touch screen (cuz everything needs that thanks nintendo!
) that would be in the smack dab center and be about as big as a GBM's screen. the audio out jack would double as a usb connector to charge the unit, and be made for the oldie electric guitar plug. It would also feature not four but six shoulder buttons and a memory stick slot.
more later.
anyone interested?
case designs are open! but not controller designs.

i'm sorry javabrain, but are you mentally retarded?
its just that i can't phathom you not being able to tell that EVERYONE makes fun of your posts.
and you bring up some pretty stupid stuff, i mean, a new game console and then mario:stealth? plus you think that if a rumor is spread the game can be made, thats not true at all. what happens is that some people get info early and spread TRUE rumors, which are then actually released.

We should store the games on LP records!
Hey guys, I know java personally, he really likes to daydream.
I know it's fun, man, but the talk here is about stuff that's actually feaseable. Your hopes are pretty high for somebody who hasn't even built a portable or even hacked something yet...
It's just that I know you love to think of cool new things, but oyu can't make a new thread about every idea you get.
You should just buy a notepad and write all your brainstorms down for people to look at 70 years later when your dead and famous.

Guys we should use a DORITO for the main processor! What with its cheesy-tastic powder coprocessor... Maybe make a cheaper version using tortia (sp?) chips... throw "SX" in the name somewhere if that's the case...
On a more serious note, is it possible to store video on a sound recording medium? That VynlVideo site looks more like parody... I hooked up my VCR's sound and composite output to a tape deck when I was younger, and tried taping some TV show. I only got the sound. I don't see much reason for it to not work, unless the audiocassette just doesn't have the fidelity to support video.

Unlike you people, obviously, i think big. I don't let little details like the fact that i dont know anything sboout making game systems or even hacking them. i put up ideas for people to grab. Dont make fun of me for it. It may be true that i am thinking too big, but with the technology available, it IS possible!

Yes it works. First of all, your attempt to tape video onto an audio tape was unsuccessful because a video takes up a crapload of space. An audiotape reads with a stationary head sitting perpendicular to the tape, while a videotape had to be read/written with the head sitting at an angle for a wider space then the tape would offer perpendicularly. Not only that, but the head even rotates for a higher relative velocity.bicostp wrote:On a more serious note, is it possible to store video on a sound recording medium? That's why you'r video wasn't taped onto an audiotape, you were pouring a lake into a shotglass.
Vinylvideo works because records have the highest frequency range of any other medium (yes, much better than CDs) and the video is on the record in some compressed encoded fasion. The record player doesn't go directly to the TV, but the record player goes into a small decoding machine which then feeds into the TV. It's just like a datatape, just on a record.
