That doesn't really make sense since it took almost 20 years for the portable NES.Motoman wrote:Well considering the Xbox was introduced in 2001 at CES and its 2006 now when the first Xboxp was done.....probably 5 years.
It all has to do with technology. A portable 360 could be done now. It's just not convienent.

Not to be a killjoy, but I think the answer to this question is never. THis is mainly due to the fact of the sheer power of the machine. It takes 160 WATTS of power and the Power brick is HUGE
(Not that it would be used, I just wanted to point it out
)! Take into consideration that the PS2 uses only 50 Watts and the Xbox only uses 74. Not to mention the overly complex wireless controls, which would be a pain to solder to. Also the size of mobo would be a limiting factor, considering that it is about 10"x12". Another problem would be the heat the thing puts out. You could make one portable, yet the term 'portable' would be more closely related to portable generator than say portable radio or tv. Finally, the screens we use are just too small to display all of the graphics that the 360 puts out. The Psone screens even have trouble showing ps2 graphics very well. BUT, if any one ever does portabalize it then they will have my respect for all eternity.
BTW
BTW
Though I wish so, I doubt that the PS3 will ever be portablized (at least until they release the PSthree aka a smaller one).Ps3 will probobly be hacked, modded and portabalized

there is at most about a 1% chance that either system will ever be portabilized beyond something like a psone with lcd type thing. these things are basically a PC so yea

The only Next-gen console i could see turned portable is the Revolution. This being it will be the smallest, and the cheapest. The only hard thing here (As stated above) is the controller. But dont forget it can play GCN games too
And in my opinion, The revolution would be the only console worth portablizing....even tho Halo 3 on-the-go would be cool

Tell me, what is a Revolution? I have heard of a Wii, but not a revolution. >_> And there will still be the alternative to the motion sensative control that they will release, iirc. So the Wii could be. And it will be wifi compatible.

well the dual processors are very large and the thing needs to have decent games to be portabalized (more than just oblivion and DOA4
, lookin foward to too human and gears of war)
But the biggest hurdle would be a screen that can handle the high def graphics... $300 for one of those is pretty steep...
The biggest question is if the XBOX360 hardware will be updated later or not (As in the hardware now has a few bugs, but capabilities of machines double every 18 months...)
Wii will be a very difficult portable due to the controller...couldn't be a handheld mabye an r-zone type thing of possibly like atkafighter's dreamcastp... oh well I am pretty sure there will be a psthree(as in smaller) because of the ps2 chipset being launched within the PS3...I mean when they have the emulation thing down SONY MIGHT make a smaller, cheaper version (HOPEFULLY!!!

Im still in warranty

well the number quoted on the power supply is a 'maximum' (if that is indeed where you got that number from), and the power supply itself consumes a bit of power. a portable xbox also would probably run straight off of DC, scrap the DVD drive and use a laptop hard drive. so i think that while 74 watts might be a bit optimistic, 420w (3.5x120) is probably a little pessimistic.vskid wrote:I think it uses a ton more than that, it uses 3.4 or so amps of 120v. We had to get a 400 watt power inverter to power it in our van because our 120 watt sounded like it was being tortured.Mr. Hawkins wrote:Xbox only uses 74
