Cool screen - LG 6.4" for $40

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Cool screen - LG 6.4" for $40

Post by Life of Brian »

Some guy on my digital picture frame instructables page found a pretty cool screen he's going to try out. Figured some of you might like taking a look... It takes composite and rgb, and there's even the full specs for the thing right there! What do you guys think - nice enough for portables? It DOES need 12 volts, however...

And for those of you who haven't seen it yet: http://www.instructables.com/ex/i/E9106 ... 143E7E506/

It actually takes down to 10.8v minimum. I'm a bit flakey about it, but we'll see.

EDIT: Ya, you need the video controller, which is $99 included with the LCD:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but on the $99 page, it states it includes the "Lcd, Cable and Inverter." So really, you should be fine with the $40 one if you're going to do an LED mod (assuming that's possible with this screen.) In the spec it states
The LC064N1 requires two power inputs. One is employed to power the LCD module and to derive the voltages
that drive the TFT array and liquid crystal. The second input which powers the back-light CCFT, is typically
generated by an inverter which is an external unit from the LCD.
So, all this kit is doing is taking care of the power to the backlight and giving you a cable to interface with the screen. The LCD by itself is ready for both RGB and composite, the only difficulties you'll have are getting a cable for it (maybe you can solder directly onto the board) and lighting the screen.

I agree with boodle.

If it's not used for a portable, I think it would make a nice display for my next digital picture frame.
