Can you make them so it doesn't have to be hooked up to the computer?

Nick, iam7805 is building a simple video game console. Unless you consider the innards of the game console a computer, nothing in his project has anything to do with a computer.

Are you suggesting that he make the controllers for his console wireless?

last i heard (earlier today) he was designing the schematic for the GPU, so its going pretty well

i think he has designed the psu and controller board, workin on the gpu part of the main motherboard now, im not 100% sure what all is done yet

I'm going to work on the controller... I just need the board layout so I can design the prototype PCB. Gimme some of the specifics for case design, too.

how does this controlleroperate?

with the "up-down" principle like the NES and SNES
like the Atari ans Genesis? (hopefully not)
something complicated like the playstation and xbox?
or one data line plus hot like the n64?

So you're doing an up/down interface? You should go NeoGeo and have a pin for each button, allowing the controller to be smaller.
