Let's use this thread to talk about how cool the Ps3 will be, as was intended when it was made.Lets leave the Rev and the 360 to their own threads.
I told you! $400!

I see no indication of Sony dieing. Besides, a corporation never dies, it just declares bankruptcy and rebuilds itself
On the poll I voted for PS3. I'm quite interested in seeing what the system will be capable of. If game producers are willing to put the effort forwards they could do some very cool things with all those processors.
Is it just me, or are the visible performance jumps from generation to generation getting smaller and smaller? Expecially going from 16-bit to 128-bit, the change in visuals was like night and day. Now it seems that, while games are certainly more polished, they are only an evolution of things we have already seen as opposed to a revolution.

Love 'em or hate 'em, they'll be around for a while. Their economic situation is far too lucrative for them to be fling for bankrupcy anytime soon. Now what I CAN see is Sony possibly joining with Nintendo in the video game department if America (or any other country for that matter) ends up getting too much financial support for a console. Now THAT would be cool!Harshboy wrote:doughtfull...at the rate their going, Sony won't even existAtleast, i hope they don't

Honestly, I know one person(Whom is not a close friend!), in my Xbox loving town who actually owns a 360. In a town full of Xbox fanboys, only a few people have bought Xbox 360's. The price and lack of Halo has driven most of them away.
Notice anything here? They didn't want to spend a fortune, and only wanted Halo.(One of the most overrated game IMHO, however thats for a different discussion. Microsoft has shot themselves in the foot with the 360, however that won't stop them from spending a ton of money as they can basically spend all of the money in the world 3 times over on it. The 360 doesn't sell in Japan, and it doesn't have much of an install base in America yet(Thats not to say that once Halo3 pops up we won't see another console shortage.) I really don't see Microsoft doing well this time.
Sony. Ah, the one company that all the Nintendo fanboy's love to hate. To be honest, I don't particularly like Sony's systems either. Theres 2 games on the PS2 that are out, or are coming out that I actually want. Black, and World of Mana. Thats it. The PSOne has a couple of games on it I'm looking for, however I can't find em. The PSP has a couple games I wouldn't mind having either, but I don't want to lose my homebrew by upgrading.
PS3 will sell, and probably will become number 1 in sales in all regions. However at what cost to Sony? They have to sell at a loss to be competitive, however they're already in financial trouble as has been stated earlier in this thread. Their games will sell, and of course the next GTA will be controversial, but in the end will any of it have really mattered to Sony? Will they have made back their losses, or will they have to start writing their will? It's really hard to say.
Nintendo, a company whose games I grew up with. Gawd, what the heck have they been smoking? To be honest, I think North America, and Europe are lost to Nintendo this round. No one, who is serious about games is going to buy a system whose name is connotated with urine. Many of the hardcore Nintendo fans, those who are curious, and those who like to own everything will buy it, however the casual North American gamer will shun it.
However, thats not to say it can't succeed. We've seen odd miracles in the game industry before. The DS is one of them. Honestly, who would have believed that a two screened, touch screen based handheld would have sold in North America? Anyone? It was crazy, it was stupid sounding but guess what? It's outselling the graphical powerhouse of a PSP. The sheer craziness of the DS is outselling graphics, even in the graphically obsessed North America. However, the DS has had the better games for it, which has helped tremendously. If the Revolution has a good set of games soon after launch, and those games make use of the Wiimote well, then I see no reason they can't get second place.
To sum what I just said up, I see the console race going like this.
PS3: 1st
Wii: 2nd
360: 3rd
Nintendo and Microsoft are guaranteed to stay in the Market. Nintendo is good at keeping a profit up on their large dedicated fanbase alone, and Microsoft has money out the ying yang. Sony however, could be dropping out, even if they take 1st place, just because of money losses. At the very least they will have to rethink how they go about things next next gen. Nintendo will suffer a hard battle in North America, with the name anyways. Most teenage gamers will shrug off the system on name alone, however Nintendo is targeting some untapped markets with the Wii. Namely the older players, casual players, and those looking for something different.
However, predictions don't always hold true. 360 could gain ground with some heavy hitting games at E3, PS3 could be a flop, and Wii could be changing names again. It's impossible to tell what the future holds for the gaming industry. Positions change, Nintendo was the major player of the 80's and early 90's, Sega gained heavy ground with the Genesis and died with Saturn, Dreamcast, 32X, CD, and Nomad. We just have to wait and see how this generation turns out.

Just to let you know, the 360 has Oblivion, and just that could make it worth owning, if you don't already own a really good PC.
Also, when you said, "No one, who is serious about games is going to buy a system whose name is connotated with urine", I would have to disagree with you there. Most serious (and mature....though I admit, many gamers aren't
...) will love the Rev. (Wii, I mean) for it's backwards compatibility, new control scheme, and cheap price. The name doesn't really matter, though I do admit that it sucks. Of course, you're right that many casual gamers (with enough money for the PS3) will be turned off by the Wii
...
unless, of course, they change the name at E3, have awesome demos, announce a $250 price, and lower the cost of downloading games
....hey, I can dream, can't I?!?!?

Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!
