N64 with no audio/video...

Post by kayard »

My N64 has no audio/video output from the original cables... I tired wiring in the video straight to the output pins but still get no signal at all but when I disconnect the power I get a flicker. Is it dead? :o(

Have you modded it at all? Cart slot relocation? Anything?

Hm, it was working before? Check the a/v jack pins for shorts, along with the power connector. Also, is your expansion/jumper pack backwards or in at all?

Jumper pak in and out it's the same thing result.

It's bizarre. As for shorts, I'm not too sure how I woudl check that out.

it might be dead, or it might be sleeping. there might be no choice but let it just sit there for a week or 2. for some reason N64s just randomly start working if you don't do anything with them for a while. either that or die.

Just see if there are any pieces of metal touching on the pins, or maybe solder is bridged across two pins.

Also check your 5V line. The N64 uses the 5V line for audio and video, but not for the rest of the system. Your game could be running without any problems, but you'd never know it, because you have no 5V powering the audio and video sections of your N64!

I checked as much of the 5V line that I was able to check, but I'm thinking maybe one of my capacitors is dead and that's where my hold up is.

N64 lesson Numero uno: The voltage input that you are speaking of is a tricky to maintain 3.3V. power input. Go on Skyone's site for a diagram. It's not 5V. I'm pretty sure that N64 is dead, sorry. :(

Pin 10 of the A/V connector is 5V.
Check and make sure it's working.

Pin 10 on the A/V connector has 5V working plain as day. So that's where I'm a bit boggled. When I check the L/R and Video pins there is a signal there that varies in voltage but nothing is on screen.

it does have a 7805 line, really....that's what the 7805 is for ...

and that 5V you speak of isn't where it powers the system...When it's plugged in, first just make sure that you've got 12V and 3.3V coming out of it (check the pins)....if not, then leave the AC adapter unplugged for a day or so, and then try it again.
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

We got all the power, and various spots on the board have the proper voltages as well. There's just no signal being sent out to the TV. but when you shut off the power the screen rolls for a second and the sound clicks.
