They actually make auto-switching dc jacks so you don't have to switch between batteries or dc wall jack. They sell them at radio shack for a few bucks.

Is this alright for a battery pack? 8 AAs. 8 Duracell AA batteries. I have them in a case which then has one of those 9 volt connectors at the top and two wires at the end. Where do I solder that too? I'm pretty sure the thingy is where I solder the switch to so I'm going to solder that now. Still no idea where the battery goes to.
alright so where do i solder the battery pack too? the dc jack? the reason im confused is that everyone keeps giving me different answers.
i soldered the switch on to the thingy (the thing between the dc jack and the 7805) can you tell me exactly where i should solder the battery pack too?
and do I need to solder or can i just temporarily wire it then solder i get the whole layout done
