I've always thought of looking into vac forming(just because of huge successes like this one). A real in depth post about your vac forming setup(materials, what to do and when) would be awesome and really improve a lot of cases of portablizers everywhere...........err here

Also how did you get your shoulder buttons to sit in there so nicely? That has always been a concern of mine when not using the actual controller shell/shape.

I don't think you want my old case, it looks like crap plus some broke while taking it apart. Even if you did use it, it would look exactly like my old 64p.

I placed the button and traced over the outline of it, and dremeled most of the plastic out. Then I spent 20mins with a file and got it to fit just right. It just takes time.

Marshallh,

Thats a real nice looking case there.. You did a great job on it ,how long did it take to build it from start to finish? And how big is it ? I think vacuum forming is the way to go, over cnc. Because with vacuum forming you get all those nice curve's and with cnc its more flat and square like. So I just wanted to tell you great job and mine's almost done

How do you get to the batteries in your portable? Do you have to unscrew the case to get to them? Or are they securely locked inside the N64p?

so...I have a question. I know when doing a CNC case you can make sure that there are mounting holes and standoffs, but how do you do that with vacuum forming? Do you have to just use lots of glue to keep all the pieces in place?

I suppose you could do it that way, I cut pieces of plastic for standoffs and used hot glue. That stuff holds extremely well to styrene, but is also to get off cleanly (with a razor blade.)
I thought the case would be wobbly, but when the two halves are joined it's really quite solid.

They are inside there for good, there's no reason to take them out because I only need access to the charging jack which you can see. You just plug in any old 9v wallwart with >1amps and it charges itself.

Also, I tried running the L64 while charging it - worked great! I love this battery.

Is it safe to use any charger with Li-ion batteries? I thought you had to use a smart charger or there could be problems. I'm considering using Li-ion batteries in my PN64, and if you don't have to use a specific charger, that'd be very helpful.

DVD player batteries come with a built in charger so you don't need to buy buy one

We'll know if it doesn't terminate the charge, marshallh's typing will have lots of typos because his hands were blown off and he now has to use his elbows to type.
