build me a computer! =)

Post by game16 »

seeing the success of other threads and the overall l337 ness of this forums can you guys help ME build a computer?

the requirements are
- the parts have to be from Newegg
- i only need a Motherboard,CPU,ram and PSU
- the Parts most be mini-ATX standard
- the most restricting of all!! the total price most be around 200 USD ( not include shipping + handling)
the reason for this is the computer will be a barebones, not active gaming, although it should be able to play Solitare, but almost all computers can do that

if you feel the $200 limit is too low just comment, help!

$200? You'll be lucky if you can play minesweeper, let alone Counter-Strike 1.6.

I dunno, you could get a pretty good P3 or Duron rig for $200.

But yeah, I dont think you could play CS.

Hmm, heres a 2.16ghZ Celeron CPU/Mobo combo for $142: http://www.interloper.com/products/prod ... 027&cat=55

Check out that site (http://www.interloper.com) for some good prices on older hardware. They even stock 486 processors! (I think they still do, they did a month or so ago)

Why just NewEgg? I ordered all my parts from TigerDirect and I had no problems recieving, or problems with the products themselves.

Don't bother spending $200 on an old computer, you won't get your money's worth out of it. Don't even bother with any Celerons slower then 1.6 ghz if you want it to remain usable for a long time. If you're going to buy a computer, I recommend you get parts that can be used and upgraded for the forseeable future so you get your money's worth out of it.

Now, as for parts, here's a good start from TigerDirect. Some of the prices I found actually beat similar parts I scanned through at NewEgg.
<a href="http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... /processor combo: AMD Sempron 3300+, 512 MB RAM $129.99 after $90 rebate.
450w Power Supply $20
More memory: Ultra 512MB DDR RAM (Same as what comes with the combo) $24.99 after $20 rebate

The grand total comes to 174.98 after rebates, $284.98 before rebates. You will initially go over the proposed $200 limit, but the $175 final price isn't half bad.

Why do you only want to order from NewEgg? Do you have a gift certificate or something?

why newegg? i can trust 'em since many of my IRC buddies ordered from there without trouble, but if tigerdirect is l337 i say, why not? thanks bicostp

EDIT: and i was hoping for a mini-ATX PSU as well :| i'll check around tigerdirect

EDIT: how much is shipping at Tigerdirect?

$21.00

G.SKILL 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered System Memory Model F1-3200PHU1-512NT - Retail
$31.00

AMD Sempron 64 2500+ Palermo 800MHz HT Socket 754 Processor Model SDA2500BXBOX - Retail
+
BIOSTAR TForce6100 Socket 754 NVIDIA GeForce 6100 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
$127.25

Subtotal: $179.25
Shipping: $17.78

No messy rebates, no hastles, and robust parts.
