Well for me the best thing to do was get a book/take a class that deals with the consept of programming. While in the class we practised actual programming with BASIC. You can find other books that start you off with a different langauage, one that is still used.

Use BASIC, C#, or C++, good languages.

I was in 3rd grade when I started programming with C++, so it's pretty easy. Just get a book.

You could easily learn eitehr C or C++. Also basic is very easy so you could learn that to understand the concepts of programming as said earlier but it is very outdated, no longer used and not object oriented.

visual basic was the first real useful language i learned. i have used it all the time since then. i have since learned C, and visual basic is probably easier. you can still do neat things and use directx and make api calls and stuff. i reccomend it.

Lua anyone? and what about Ruby. Ever since Lua Player came out for PSP, i've been learning away at Lua. I use Ruby scripting in RMXP (Ruby is used in Japan i think, not too common in the US)

Ruby is pretty nice, but rails is still too slow for me to like it for web programming. I use it a bit in system programming though.

Basic gives you some bad habits. I'm learning C.
