Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Warning!

Post by Radon199 »

Ok, today I went out and picked up Oblivion for the PC and I have to say it is one of the best looking, and funest games I have ever played (not to mention some of it's voiced by Patrick Stewart).

Now heres where my warning comes into play, the PC version will NOT, I repeat NOT run on the minimum requirements. My PC isn't very bad, infact it exceeds the minimum requirements by a lot in most places.

My PC is a P4 2.4 Ghz and Oblivion only needs a 2.0 Ghz to run. My PC has a gig of ram and Oblivion needs 512. Now heres the problem, the box says it needs a 128MB video card, and thats what I have. When I got into the game I had a constant FPS of around 3... (Now keep in mind my card is a GeForce FX.... ya crap, but I got it 3 years ago when it was one of the best cards avalable).

If you have anything less than a 256mb video card I would recomend... no demand that you upgrade before playing the game. I ran it on my sisters comp which is a PD 2.4 Ghz PC with 512MB of ram and a GeForce 6200 with 256MB of ram and it runs nearly flawlessly with even some embeleshments.

So the moral of the story is if you plan on getting Oblivion make sure your PC exceeds the minimum requirements... or atleast don't have a grappy GeForce FX :P

Those are awful minumum specs! They're blocking out a lot of people by putting such huge specs on a game. Hell, I barely could run that and my machine runs Doom 3 great!

Or get a 360 and get that version. I have the 360 version and it is a masterpiece. :D

Well I just spent $91 CAD on a new card, a Asus GeForce 6200 256MB AGP. And now it works great! In fact I have cranked up most of my settings to medium with zero lag.

I have to say if you want to upgrade your card, get the one I got, it's dirt cheep, but runs like a dream, and it's not a FX so it's not total crap. :D

I do have to admit, the Xbox360 version is better... If you have a 360... and I don't. But the 360 has a 3.2 Ghz prossesor and thats why it runs so well on the 360 with everything maxed out.

I am glad I have a 360. That is the only way I could experience this game because my PC is a piece of crap. I would have to spend over $1000 just to get it to run Oblivion. :(

yeah, I'd have to spend a ton of money for a good PC to play Obvlion. With my 360, I only had to pay a decent amount of money!! and it was worth it. CoD2 is really fun, and I still have to get Fight Night and GRAW sometime....
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

Really it seems up to the person and how crapy your PC is. I only had to pay $90 to get oblivion working on my PC and because I don't have a 360 that would have cost $500 to play Oblivion.

I'm hopeing that Microsoft will do a significant price drop in November, 1 because the system was launched last November and, 2 because they will have to fight Sony and Nintendo for Holiday sales.

The memory size is virtually meaningless when you've got a sad GPU. Larger memory allows for the storage of more and larger textures, but most games out today still use less than 128MB on medium settings. I will continue to state this fact as long as people continue to follow that misconception :P

Well unfortunatly Oblivion requires a minimum of 512 mb and even with my 768 mb of memory my harddrive light lights up like mad, meaning that it's useing a lot of my Virtual Memory, and everyone knows virtual memory is uber slow. :P

Unfortunatly thats not case lol. Oblivion uses the disk for everything, and only acsesses the HD to load voices for when your comunicating. I have no doubt that it loading from the page file as when the game is running I can see my page file useage going up and down.

No matter how you run the game, 360 or PC, I recommend everybody get this game. I just played it for 7 hours, and I want to play more, but my brain is shutting down. :( As Gamelver and Radon199 can attest to, it is one of the best games of all time. :D
