How long can I leave my processor without a heatsink before stuff messes up?

It matters, are you over clocking or doing anything on the pc?

I've left mine off for 30 minutes, before it's started heating up crazily.

if you have an AMD dont play and Video-Games or stuff that require a lot of CPU usage :wink:

Anything faster than a 66Mhz Pentium will fry without a heatsink. The newer the processor, the faster it will fry.

It's possible if you have a cool-running CPU and keep the usage at a low level, you might be able to get by witohut a heatsink. But that defeats the purpose.

Marshall, I was using a ~500MHz AMD, it lasted 30 minutes before it got dangerously hot.

With my AMD 2500XP+ - about 20 seconds before it shut down.
