How do you split a PS1 controller?

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

How do you split a PS1 controller?

Post by darkarrow52 »

I'm having some trouble here, and I'm really stumped. I can't seem to find a decent source stating how to do this, and I would seriously appreciate ANY help I could get here.

And in case you didn't catch the title, I'm talking about splitting a PS1 controller, or a Dual Shock. Now, I'm alts positive that you have to use a PC board, and probably some tactile switches, but is there any alternative when splitting a controller? The design I'm looking at isn't your GBC style, it has a GBA/DS/PSP configuration, and while I suppose I could change it over, I would much rather prefer the design I have in the works.

If you're talking about splitting the board in half, just cut where you'll only cut traces, then reconnect the traces with wires...

I would like to say that I JUST ripped apart a Dual Shock PS1 controller, and despite the fact I spent around an hour trying to put it back together correctly, the traces are WAY too close! There is NO possible way I could solder those and not ground something.

....I was naieve like you. No, splitting the actual board is not relevant for a piece of hardware like this. It was rather advanced...meaning too many traces.......TOOO MANY! If you have one of the newer ones, you'll notice a port where some plasticy thing connects...see the prongs coming out of it...those are commands...so yea...get your commands from there, if you have the older ones...just solder to the rubbery stuff, one side is command whilst other is ground.
