im a guitarist/bassist who is hopeless at drumming, and i want to be able to create rough and dirty drum loops to practise along with, and too make rough versions of my songs.
i want to use sampled drums as well, as MIDI never sounds as good.
i know the fat cat sound editing programs probably have drum looping tools, but i want something that is simple and not overly complicated. i just want to create simple drums from a library of quality sounds.
id like to do my editing in audition, as thats what i know, so an external drum program which i could import into audition would be good. but i dont mind moving to one of the big packages if it offers the simplicity i desire.
can anyone offer some advice?

after some more research and some thought ive decided to move onto a big package.
but theres so many i dont know which to choose.
i want all the simple multitrack editing features, a simple drum looping system, and good recording controls.
i dont use many of the effects or advanced controls, as my music is not electronic and instrument based.
my thirst for simplicity comes from the fact that i want to make music, and not have to spend weeks learning how to use a program. im a musician, not a computer guy.

Get a GNX4 if you can afford it. Its a whole effects, drum machine, multi track recorder in one. Me and my dad got one for about $600 CAD on eBay.
If you just want software then search Google for something called HammerHead.
BTW, the GNX4 is hardware based. Heres the link http://www.guitarworkstation.com/GNX4/GNX4loband.htm
Check out all of its features before you decide you dont like it. It's really good for what you pay for.

I'd imagine right now you wish you were a cuttlefish...

I used to play with Fruity Loops. You can make drum loops with it. There is a free trial for it too
http://www.fruityloops.com/
I used to mess around with midi's in it and do the cheap video game song remixes. Made a pretty cool tetris one once.

first of all, save your money and dont get a gnx. Yes it is a good machine if you dont have a decent computer, but if you have a decent computer then i would invest in a asio input audio card if you are interested in recording at all. Dont get a creative card though... They suck. Get m-audio products. If you are interested in recording bands then cheack this card out.

If you just want to do single tracking then look into as usb addaptible (sp?) card like this one.

The usb ones are nice because you can record a track anywhere if you have a mic. and your laptop.
Now for software, i use logic which is just the old version of cubase before cubase and "i think it was" sonar went there oppisite ways. In the end, it really doesnt matter what software you use because they are so close to each other. There are some free ones out there so do some searching and you can find pretty good software.
If you interested in recording, feel free to PM me and we can talk music.

not quite sure about the drum looping program.
I do know my brother used the program LeafDrums quite often, and he had a high success rate with that.
as far as multi-track recording, i go with Cool Edit, or now known as Adobe Audition. Many effects built in, and a might decent aray of mastering tools available for it. It is my favorite.
