From what I here the smaller one is better since: It comes with a modem, and I think they fixed the problem where the rear fan would suck in huge ammounts of dust.

Just my 2 cents, I'm not a big PS fan so I wouldn't realy know.

ive fixed two of my freinds' older ps2's just by opening them up, cleaning up the laser assembly, and in one instance cranking the laser a bit (tutorials for this everywhere). before you pay someone to repair a "broken" unit, see what you can do yourself. (someone paid ME thirty bucks to bend a piece of metal)

Buy a used PSTwo...the new ones aren't compatible with around 30 (big name) PS2 games (like ATV Offroad Fury 3), and around 50 PSOne games (NOO! THEY DONE STOLEN NHL 2000! :()

Wow, you guys must be unlucky with your big PS2's. I've had my big one since the first month it was officially released, and I never had any problems with it. Not even a disc read error...

Yeah, unlucky. The tray braking wasn't the first thing to go wrong. My first PS2's tray wouldn't open, so I know from experiance that the PS2's have a tray issue. Oh and to add, I didn't play movies on my PS2 that often.

As for the hard drive part, if you can solder on a mod chop, putting the IDE connections on will be just a little more work. I'd say if you really want to use a hard drive the soldering is worth it.

And in responce to the whole builtin ethernet thing. Who here is going to play online with a portable? And even more who here is going to go to the trouble of adding a wifi card, just so you can use it evey once and never.

The smaller PS2's flip up lid tends to stick a lot, for me at least.

I like the PS2 over the PSTwo, since the PS2 is compatible with all third-party accesories/controllers. The fact that the Logitech Cordless Action controller pushed the front of the PSTwo up a bit makes me dislike it.

Plus you can't use the HDD.. for the 3 games that use it.

Also, the PSTwo has some compatiblity issues with Both PS and PS2 games.

i've had some problems using intec accesories on my Pstwo. I couldn't get an Intec multitap or wireless controller to work.
PSp is about 70% done, just have to do the controller and case.
