Oooh... thanks; stupid internet! Homedepot.com never said much of anything about aluminum strips/sheets/coils! And if home depot doesn't have aluminum I'll look at lowes... and I hope home depot has plexiglass...
So Thanks everyone!!!

I also wonder where you would buy engraving plastic. No hardware store I've ever been to has it.

okey dokey... I think I might just give up on engraving plastic because I don't want to spend usless money for thin items which need renforcing. Also I just don't want to screw plexi and engraving plastic together. So can someone please tell me if this thickness sounds correct...?
1/4 inch plexiglass...?
1/4 inch aluminum...?
Sorry, I just have never dealt with these items before (other than aluminum foil) :( .

If you still want to use engraving plastic (which i use because i think it looks great), I buy mine at NASH engraving. www.nashind.com

They are local to me so I jsut pick it up, but they could probably ship. They are the cheapest i've found

hmmm... that's pretty cool. There are so many types of plastics... any suggestions? Wow! Flexiglass caught my eye (it's somewhat like the exodus :P ) but why is it so small??? .020 inches!!! Well that's what the plexiglass is for I guess.
So anyway can you order online :D?... or do you have to call them :( .

I got my engraving plastic in a local hobby store. I don't think chains like Hobby Lobby have them, but if you have a locally-owned hobby store, there's a chance you'll find it there. Also, Ben suggests trophy shops, doesn't he? There's bound to be one in your area. Just call it and ask if they have any engraving plastic for sale...

you can use trophy shops. I have, but they charge double the price of Nash.

Yes there are many different kinds of plastic. I think they are all comparable in price too. I just use the standard 1/16" red from romark.

I don't know if they take internet orders. I never had to place one.

I think I'll either order online for nash thingy or go 21 miles there. It's a bit closer then the nearest hobby lobby and I don't want a big price from trophy thingies. So Thankies all!
P.S so does the 1/4 inch plexiglass and aluminum sound strong enough?

If all you have to go is 22 miles, then it's totally worth it.

To answer your question, not sure about the plexiglass, but I've been using engraving plastic and aluminum with no problem.

oh yeah cause stupid S+H, it's like $500 a lb!!! :D . I know aluminum is a good, strong material; but I was wondering how thick? I thought about 1/4 inches of aluminum is good, but I want to confirm that... (I have no clue how strong aluminum is)
edit: P.S super duper nice portable scherubino!

1/4" of aluminum is definitely too thick. Ben suggests 1/16" thickness in his book, and I even found that amount somewhat tricky to work with. As for the width of the aluminum, it all depends on how deep you want your portable to be. Hope that helped.
