If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.
On the PSone the schematice state it takes 7.5V to power up, but can you add a little more than this say 8V or 8.5V without frying it? If not then how woudl you regulate Voltage to gety 7.5 Volts if you weren't using batteries?
Mouser should have it if you search for the right item. They have no minimum orders, so they work out well when you can't find a certain part at Radio Shack
Why do you need it to run on 8.5V? Just wondering since a 7.2V battery would work fine. It should be able to run directly off 8.5V with no problem. If it's too much, there is a fuse on the board so you get a second chance, but I very highly doubt that 1 extra volt over the normal is going to blow it.
BTW, the PSone uses a 7805 (5V regulator) so you really only need 5V to power it. The 7.5V power supply powers the 5V regulator. In theory you could just bypass the 7805 and run the PSone directly off 4 rechargable AA's (4.8V). This could be really cool if you have a screen that runs off 4.8V (like an LED modded hip gear screen).
