Hi All,
First time poster here, although I've been avidly reading the forums for about two months. I am currently working on a NESp based on a power joy 2 and a dreamcast portable (amibitous eh?)
I bought two hipgear screen pads for use with my projects, and I unfortunately think I killed one. I put too much power directly to the screen, and although it was working, after I disconnected it and connected the batteries again ... it was dead. Sometimes the backlight briefly flashes on when I apply power, but it does not stay on.
I put about 8 volts through it (I know, serves me right) and I am just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience. I know the hipgear uses a 7808 to regulate power, so I doubt it has overvoltage protection in the screen board but is there a cap or a resistor I can replace/bypass to fix it similar to the wire trick on a PSONE screen?
Thanks all and I look forward to chatting with you all further.
P.S. I hooked the screen itself ( - the controller board) to the other hipgear pad I have, and it works fine ... so its the controller board not the lcd itself.

I think the 8V you inputted may be too high for the Hip Gear to handle, try toning it down a bit. Nevertheless, check if any connections are grounded and such. Use a 7.2 V battery, it's da bomb.

Yeah, I've tried it witha lower voltage (I actually have the second hipgear I had running off 4 aa's now) but I think I damaged it when I attached it to the 8v source.
When I say the controller board, I mean the board behind the lcd screen ... where the inverter is and such.
As far as the sound board, i removed the 10k pots from it, but otherwise it's fine as far as I know - it wasn't hooked up when I ran the power in. That board - the one with the 7808 - is the board I disconnected.
I'm going to see if anyone comes up with a method of fixing the board for me, but if not I'd part with it for shipping. I like the sense of community on these boards hehe. We'll see what happens with it.
