Rumble Pa(c)k?

Post by bucsboy »

I have an official N64 rumble pack, and there are a few things I would like to do with it. First off, I would like to build it in to my N64 portable. Second, I would like to have it run off the same power source as everything else, no external batteries. Third off, If possible, I dont want it to have to run through the memory card slot on the controller, you know what I mean? I want it to be seperate so I can still have the memory card in its slot. So basically, I want to make an internal rumble pa(c)k that I can switch on and off, (spst, I think?), and have it be seperate from the n64 memory card port on the controller. The main reason for me asking about not having them go through the same slot is because I dont really want to have to rip open to controllers, ok? Here are the insides of the rumble pack, front and back:

Damn, the PHPBB search suck!!! Anyway, that f**kin' search didn't help me, so if anyway knows of articles that contain this info, please tell, and if you know, please tell.

Thanks,

There was a discussion about this before, and if I remeber correct someone suggested\thought of making the rumple pack into a wrist strap (which I think was a pretty neat idea).

If you open up the controller you can simple desolder the memory slot (around 40 pins) off of the PCB, then just reattach it with some wire. Bam, relocated slot.

I don't think their's any other way to use the rumble pack ('pretty sure you need the controller IC to send the information). You however might be able to use two slots on one controller, but I don't know how the N64 would react to that.

As done by the man who made the vibra-mouse 2, replace the motor with the vibrator from a cellular telephone. They are much smaller, just as strong, and use less energy.
Shhh! I'm not officially back yet.

Just get a Tremor Pack. It's basically a Rumble Pak with a memory card pass-through slot. It should be easy to re-locate the motor.

Electric Rain, I think you mean Tremor Pack  . I actually have one of those. Its called a tremor pack plus, the tremor pack is just an offbrand rumble pack. All the tremor pack plus does is run two cart slots in parallel with a switch to change the power to either slot 1 or 2. The pcb is actually quite large :? and there is a lot of wasted space.
The board is just a little bit longer than the height of an n64 game (the longest part of the game cartridge. Ya know in the middle.)
I planned on putting mine in my pN64, was relocating the slot on it, had 8 wires left, and just got bored.

And yes, it is very easy to relocate the motor. Just desolder the two short wires going to it, and solder longer ones in their place.

It would be great to have in a portable, but only if there is room for it.
Stupid "Performance" making huge pcb's for no reason...
