Schmoke and a pancake? Waffle and a bong? (Sorry, couldn't resist :D )

I think I spotted a Maplin electronics branch last time I was over in Holland, but I might have been mistaken as I was too busy trying to get used to driving on the right.

Holland is cool!
Last time I was in Amsterdam I ended up in the Hell's Angels bar in the middle of the red light district. Even got tattooed by Hanky Panky's downstairs.

you can make your own desoldering braid with some stranded wire. ive done this before, but its definitely ont as good as the real thing.

get some stranded wire, strip a good 3 inches of it, then arrange the strands on the end so that they have maximum contact and entaglement. smother it in flux, and then wick up as much solder as you can until it wont absorb any more. repeat many times.

you might just want to wait until you have the proper tool. no point rushing into things and screwing something up.

One time my dad went on a school trip or something, and he and his friend ended up in the Red Light District. See, they have a strict "No Photos", and his friend didn't know it... So he snapped a picture and a bunch of guards tried to jump 'em... In the end, my dad tricked 'em by having 1 extra roll of film in his hand when he took the roll with the picture from the guard and destroyed the fake roll :P . True story...

What got me last time I was in Amsterdam was the amount of Nigerians around up to anything and everything dodgy. My Mrs was walking just in front of me and one guy says "Hey you lovely lady, you wanna come over here and talk?" to which I promptly replied "f*** off, that's my wife"

Another time I was getting some Pounds changed over for Euros and I noticed something out the corner of my eye. I took hold of the cash with my left hand in preparation for what I knew was going to happen and sure enough a "hand" appears trying to grab my money so I end up grabbing his wrist and twisting it around his back (got taught this by a Police friend). The guy says "Hey, I was only after a pen!"

What I didn't understand is why he thought ripping off a guy over twice the size and build of him was a good idea?

Now I'm not exactly "tough" by any sense of the word but if you didn't know me and saw me in the street, you certainly wouldn't try stealing money from me unarmed.

I know I wouldn't... I never rip off a guy with a good taste in cars or anyone else for that matter  ... The kid who tried to rip me off was some 8th grade j*ckoff... It didn't take long to make him wince and grab his crotch  ...

Well, if you like my car:

That's me aged 20 (on the right obviously!) with it. Me and a bunch of other Goths had been to see Metallica in concert.

It was even used in a music video once for a black metal/80's glam metal band called "Satan's Wings". They mounted one of the cameras on the roof so a lot of the shots included the spider web. It was a proper 70mm film camera too and weighed a ton - had to take the rear and one of the side windows out so the bracket for the camera could be clamped to the Bug securely (it was very expensive - possibly worth 10 times what the car is worth!)

WOW  ! Nice car man! I wanna get a VW (Beatle) and totally trick it out with LEDs, neon, chrome elements, and fully functional instruments (guitars and basses, for concerts 8) ) on the sides... It would rock... I'd get the paint-job sharkskin style... Yeah *drools*...

DO IT! You know you want to!
You're in luck if you're in the US (I'm presuming you are) as there's some good solid VWs around there. The British weather isn't as kind to them. Engines are stupidly easy to tune and repair.

Mine cost £90 from a junk yard back in 1997! Proberbly another £200 to get it looking like what it did in that picture above. It was pretty solid apart from the rear end was smashed in and the front spare wheel well had rotted away (they all do this eventually). The "Baja" panels which is basically the front end, bonnet, front and rear fenders etc cost £100 second hand. The rest was spent on paint (I knew a guy who resprayed cars so he did it very cheap) and a few bits like second-hand tyres etc.

At the moment the Bug is sat in my back yard partially stripped and in the middle of being rustproofed (the price of a cheap paint job  ). It started to rust real bad around 2000 so I attacked all the rusty bits and put red oxide over the whole car. Been like that since then but going back to purple hopefully before summer.

A few other things I'd do is take amps and permantely install them in the flip-up part of the trunk. In the back of the front seats there would be LCD displays. Same with the sunshields 8) . The whole car would have Direct TV (because it has XM built in  ). And several different game systems that you could play on the screens... Yeah, I should sell that idea to Pimp My Ride  ... But seriously, that's my dream mobile... Now I have to get a drivers license :P !
