yay for you all, or whatever, ho wants to bet that sony will have 2.7 out before march? the good thing bout the gp2x firmware upgrades is that they FIX things not break them

What's so funny, is you think the GP2x is so ultimate yet you don't even realize that the whole reason people like it is because of how it can run other company's games, infact one of the emulators you love so is a Sony emulator. GP2x hardly has any of it's own content, atleast Sony can make games, and not have to steal them to be successful.Triton wrote:yay for you all, or whatever, ho wants to bet that sony will have 2.7 out before march? the good thing bout the gp2x firmware upgrades is that they FIX things not break them

wow, you dont get it do you? for one the gp2x isnt just for emulation, I almost NEVER play the emulators, i use my 2x to watch videos, play songs, read ebooks, play ported games and some of the great homebrew that is already out. and 2 90% of the reason people hack their psps is to use emulators. so dont get all dickfaced about it. i know the gp2x has some flaws but i belive that it is better than the psp for what i use it for. at least the company that makes the 2x actually likes their customers and listens to what they say and think. unlike sony who pretty much hate you and want you to spend more money buying their crap. lets add it up shall we:
PSP:250$
memory stick duo 1gb: ~80$
umd movies: 15-20$
games: 30$+
so for one of each (you know you would buy more games and stuff tho) total is: 375$
gp2x: 190$+14$s&h
1gb SD:55$ various online stores
2gb SD card ~80$ on ebay
2200mah batteries+ 2hr quick charger :20$ (good for 4-6 hours or better if underclocked for ebook or mp3 with sccreen off)
TOTAL(1gb sd and batts):278$
i save at the VERY least $97.00 USD plus i didnt count sales tax etc plus the fact your going to buy more than one game or movie for your psp

Okay, $300 (accounting shipping for SD cards and batteries and what not) for a system that's main fan base is theft of other video games. Or $300 (how much I payed) for a machine that actually runs original content, has a web browser, a d-pad, and plays videos, MP3s just like a 2x. Hard decision.Triton wrote:wow, you dont get it do you? for one the gp2x isnt just for emulation, I almost NEVER play the emulators, i use my 2x to watch videos, play songs, read ebooks, play ported games and some of the great homebrew that is already out. and 2 90% of the reason people hack their psps is to use emulators. so dont get all dickfaced about it. i know the gp2x has some flaws but i belive that it is better than the psp for what i use it for. at least the company that makes the 2x actually likes their customers and listens to what they say and think. unlike sony who pretty much hate you and want you to spend more money buying their excrement. lets add it up shall we:

... so basically your saying that the gp2x was made to run emulators and that s it? WRONG AS HELL! there are tons of homebrew games for the machine! plus we ahve ports of PC freeware/opensource games. the emulator side of things is a very small part, and not all of that is theft anyway. the go2x will have web browsing in the future, matter of time till someone codes support in. ok say you buy JUST the psp it comes with a 32mb card and one game and a movie right? 250$+7%=~267$ sales tax for that. gp2x 203$ after shipping and tax plus a 512mb card online for 25$ shipping included = 228$ i still get more for less $. the only thing that the psp has over the 2x is UMDs commercial games and 3d acceleration thats IT. and so your saying you would rather pay 40$ more for a limited machine that you have to pay extra to play "original content" on?

If I'm not mistaken you have to buy a card to use WiFi on the 2x, and also from what I hear, it's not cheap.Triton wrote:... so basically your saying that the gp2x was made to run emulators and that s it? Oi vay, I sware any post about PSP homebrew just turns into an all out bidding war between the PSP and the GP2x
We know they both have good points and bad points so get over it. They are both amazing systems.
This thread was meant for the people who asked about PSP homebrew back during December, not so the two of you could piss bricks at each other. You want to "discuss" the differences between the PSP and the GP2X make a thread about it, don't hijack mine.

no, the end user does not have to program everything, but someone does. sony can afford to do everything and sell it at a loss. gamepark holdings is a tiny company in korea with like one coder. the gp2x comunity is resposible to see that this system is used to its full potential. its a comunity effort, not a corporate one

That someone IS an end user, and he has to program to make his system operable.. Oh and by the way you said GP2x had lack of 3d acceleration like it's a minor thing, lack of it is actually quite bad.Triton wrote:no, the end user does not have to program everything, but someone does. sony can afford to do everything and sell it at a loss. gamepark holdings is a tiny company in korea with like one coder. the gp2x comunity is resposible to see that this system is used to its full potential. its a comunity effort, not a corporate one

not particularly, it has dual 200mhz arm processors and another 2d accelerator, plus it can do software 3d rendering and is capable of emulating up to psone quality or do near n64 quality 3d graphics nativly WITHOUT 3d acceleration. the 2x was never intended to compete with mainstream systems, its a niche market thing that everyone cant help but compair to sonys PSP
EDIT: yea if a mod could split this thread that would be nice

it runs the psone emlator nearly as good as the PSP can, and i said NATIVLY the gp2x can do n64 quality graphics, its a whole differnt ballgame than emulation. it can run quake 1 at fullspeed and quake 2 at about 20fps give or take and those are ports of PC games
and you have to keep in mind the psp has been out and available for over a year, the gp2x has been out and available for less than three months! and it has better emulators than the psp in several cases (genesis for sure, and getting close on snes) and some great homebrew
