This weird generic screen...

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

This weird generic screen...

Post by philly »

Alright!
So I went onto ebay uk site (http://www.ebay.co.uk) and found some pretty cheap sony ps1 screens. "Great!" I thought, "that's perfect!". Unfortunately, the screen seems to be pretty low quality- like, the resolution is fuzzy-as! Playing GTA:London is very difficult because you can barely read the damn text! So my question now is this:
Should I abandon this screen, even though I successfully managed to do an LED mod on it, and buy the official screen? Or is there some arcane method of 'clearing up' the quality of the screen? NB- my installing the mod hasn't adversely affected it; I was trying to play GTA:L even before opening the thing up...

it's because your using the composite input. If you use the screen in s-video or rgb mode it will be much better. S-video requires modding, but rgb is easy. What brand is the screen, if you tell us we can find you some rgb pinouts.

he said it's not the official one so i don't think composite is making it fuzzy (composite is fine, just not as good as RGB). if you can't stand to use it, get an official one

Yeah, think I might have to bite the bullet and open the wallet :?
But just so you know, and in case there really is something wrong with it, the brand is "Wild Things", and what I guess must be the model number is TV-2006. I don't hold out much hope of anyone knowing, since it's obviously a cheap Chinese job- the company's based here in the UK, in Cardiff!
The input is whatever standard input is- like other monitors, it plugs straight into the PSOne and folds down on it, clamshell style.
Ah well, what's another 20quid when I should end up with a truly great portable! :D
