I can understand if you had previous electronic experience, or possibly modded something before, and the fact that you call yourself a n00b makes me think you will have nothing but a broken ps2. Start off with something that people have a lot of information on, like a snesp or a nesp with a noac.

In my opinion the PStwo is one of the easiest portables to make, but the only thing stopping everyone from making one is the price (and maybe the case). All you have to do is connect a PSone screen to the PStwo, and add a battery (I've done it with my roommates PStwo. Now to get my own...). Make a case, and add a controller for a handheld. On the other hand the PS2 is probably the second most difficult (behind the XBOX obviously), because of the voltages required, the size of the drive, size of the motherboards, size of the controller ports, and thats even before you try to fit it in a case.
EDIT: Forgot to get to a point. The point is that the people on these boards know what they are talking about. Surely, it is possible to build a PS2p (gannon already had his on batteries long ago), but not likely that a newbie with little to no experience will figure it out (too many voltages, to many wires, batteries, too much money, not worth the 30 minute runtime, etc). Now, I'm by now means an expert, but even the Dreamcast was quite challenging for me after building several other portables.

yeah I have some experience. I've modded stuff before. Like I moded a GameBoycolor. I connected lightbulbs, wires, and batteries and it lit up. we all did it in school. I got a screw driver and opened it up. I put the stuff from 1 case to another. I want to go farther more into Hacking. Like my freind and I were going to do a p-box, where we would combine x-box and ps2. So if you keep saying to do a nesp where on earth do I start? I will work on it for a high school project. When I get in High school that would be my project. so where do I begin?

Well,first you get a Nes.Then a screen.Then a controller.Then a battery.Then duct tape them all together,and you've finished a Nesp the cheap and easy way. 8)
