Believe it...

The secret project I started long ago. A dream finally realized. Here it is. My DCP!
Image
I'm holding it at a good angle for the picture, because for some reason my hinges "set" themselves at strange angles. I have to fix that. Technically its a portable, but not a handheld. I chose to do the PSone style because:
1) Its really big.
2) I don't have a suitable case.
3) Playing with others looses its fun when people have to lean into your face to see.
4) I'm almost out of money (again)
Here is a shot of the back.

I guess second place isn't bad.
I guess nobody will ever see this one, because the DC forum is pretty much abandoned.

Very nicely done, but I think that at least you should make somekind of case for the batteries and attach that case to the main unit, that would make carrying it around a bit easier.

It's way better than any portable dreamcast I have...for now.

Good job! What is your play time with those batteries?

I love it! Looks just like the TreamCast (Uh, I think thats what it's called)
Did you just wire up a GC power supply and the AV connections then? Cuz that would be a great way to make an easy DCp.

I was going to say if those batteries fit you could gut the modem and put them in there, but it looks like they wouldn't, unless you could really squeeze them in there.

Ahh sorry for the late reply (even I forgot about the Dreamcast section).
Battery life is still untested, but I'm going to guess at just under an hour. I have an unmodded screen on it, so its probably about 45-55 minutes of playtime. If I modded it I would get about 1:30 minutes of play.
I may give it a paintjob one of these days, but it probably won't get the bondo treatment any time soon.
The batteries are nowhere near the size of the modem. But I think the best solution would be a "base" battery unit similar to the third part batteries for the GC, and PSone.
Thats all for now,

So was it as easy as hooking up the batterys in series to a GC PSU, and bam, it powered on?

For paint, maybe black? Like the special sports edition DC. Or you could paint only half the system black leaving the other half white, making a neat contrasting look. (well don't I sound designer-ish  )
