wma to mp3

Post by Undisclosed »

I ripped a bunch of country(ugh) cds for my mom to put on her mp3 player. But they rip in wma and that takes up too much space, so i want to convert them to mp3. Ive tried some software, but its free trials and lets you do like so many songs or so many days. Does anyone have any free software that isnt a trial version.

Yeah, CDex is a great program for ripping CDs.

Edit: This program works quite well for converting all types of media to other types, including wma>mp3.

If you do use Windows Media Player there is a menu to change it from ripping from wma to ripping from mp3.

Or you could just rip the wma file at a lower bit rate to take up less room. Its under the same options menu that wallydawg was referring to

Or you can do what wallydawg just said, rip them as MP3 instead of WMA. Just go into the settings of Windows Media Player 10 and make the required adjustments.

go get dell jukebox for free, google it, by the way if you rip wit jukebox do it in WMA and compress it to near cd quality, it compresses them smaller than mp3s with better quality.

I guess I'll ask here, what is a good program for re-encoding mp3's to smaller bitrates?

I use DeepRipper.

If you're really concerned for space, and your MP3 player can use them, encode the music to Ogg Vorbis format. It sounds just as good, or better than MP3 with much smaller file sizes. (or rip to Ogg, and just re-encode the songs you want into MP3.)

MP3s can get sort of big, but what do you expect from a format that has been basically the same since 1991? (MP3 is just the audio track format from MPEG-Layer 2 files)
