I have lost all faith in Nintendo

Personally, I think the Revolution will succeed. I also believe that this generation will be great. I have been gaming for about 20 years, and I have found that people always freak out about new technology when it first comes out. Think about it, a lot of people thought that the analog stick on the N64 controller was dumb, and now it has become an industry standard. Nintendo also created the D-pad, a now industry standard, when everyone else was using joysticks. You never know, maybe the remote control will become the next industry standard. Yes Nintendo has made some mistakes, but at least they have enough guts to take risks.
By the way, if you look at the specs, the PS3 and Xbox 360 have about equal power. There are some things Xbox 360 can do better, and there are some things that the PS3 will do better. Basically though, they will be about the same in terms of raw power. If you do not believe me, look it up in IGN or Gamespot.
People should just calm down and let the next generation of consoles arrive in full force before they pass judgement on systems that they haven't even played yet. With the videogame market like it is today, there will be no crash. Videogames rival movies in terms of revenues, and crap movies come out what seems like daily. I think games surpass movies as an entertainment medium. Also things are a lot different than they were in the 80s. Gaming is no longer a geek hobby. It has become mainstream. PS3, Xbox 360, and the Revolution are all going to be awesome trust me.

I doubt the entire industry will crash, but nintendo may starting on the slipperly slope that sega went down, if you think about the odds are already stacked against them. Microsoft has enough money to fail a good three, four times and sony has an entire empire of consumer electronics to fall back on while nintendo is just a games console company, so if they dont do too well it maybe curtains.
Also about it the controller being the next industry standard, it might well be, but then again it might also be another virtual boy...

Personally, I think Nintendo will still make consoles even if they lose a lot. If it is still in their plan, Nintendo will not go 3rd party if they were to have a horrible console. Lose Nintendo, lose everything Nintendo.

I agree, Nintendo does have a long road ahead. If they do fail, it will be a sad, sad day for gaming. They always have their portables though. As Ben said, they may be a portable only company after this generation. And yes, they have said they will not become a 3rd party developer. As shelter pitfall said, if we lose Nintendo, we lose everything.Extreme_Jesus wrote:I doubt the entire industry will crash, but nintendo may starting on the slipperly slope that sega went down, if you think about the odds are already stacked against them. Somehow i dont think Nintendo's downfall will be quite a quick as sega if it fails. More like a slow process of being less and less popular until they finally slide into bankruptcy

Nintendo might not fail at all. They still made a good chunk more profit than the other two companies, though their console was not as advanced.
As long as the enterprise is profitable for them, who cares if they are out on top? The fact of the matter is that Nintendo is playing it smart, sticking with the 'Video Games Are for fun' idea rather than the concept of obsolescence, which is not as much of a consideration.
How many of you have an old 16-bit computer? Few of you? Well, how many of you have an SNES? That's my point.
While many companies focus on the hardware and count on the games to bail them out, Nintendo knows that hardware isn't as important as it is on the PC Platform as the fun factor, and try to offer new types of interfaces to maximize the system's potential. Here in America, we put more emphasis on how advanced our systems are than how fun the games are, while in Japan they have the right idea.

But if the DS goes on selling like it does in the US, and the PSP keeps gaining popularity, it will hav e far less. Also, one of the reasons why it has more games is because it was out for longer, when it had no competition.Metroid fan wrote:uh no the ds has a lot more games than the pspMr. Cool wrote: The DS has games, 2 screens and wifi, but nointernet, movies, pictures, music, and less games.
I think that Sony will win overall, because they have prooved in the past with the PSone and PSP, that even though they come in later to the game, and their systems are a lot more expensive, they still win, even if they dont get the christmas rush.

THe reason why the DS outsells the PSP in japan and not here is in the East the DS has a wide range of popular games, but the thing is none of those games would sell overseas so they havent been released over here.
Again with the PSP the popular games in the west dont sell quite so well in the east, Nintendo needs to make more games that would sell in the west rather than only focusing on the eastern market.

nintendo has been around for hundreds of years they have a huge pile of history and this revolution although wierd doesnt mean any thing the lach of hdtv means nothing. how many of you have an hdtv? do you even know how much one costs, If HD was the only factor in the console race, it would make nintendo lose but its not the thing to look for here is marketing and price nintendo has (in my opinion a pritty good thing) no marketing hype. sony gives people little choice most of the time but most of there games suck, same with microsucks but realy only thing that will win any one over to any system is if some one made a game that didnt suck. the only reason i bought a X-box was for GTA, why not a ps2? i had one but i never played it and i wanted some thing for music. so convenent cheap features that nintendo over looks are comming part of the REVOLUTION. things that microsoft and sony had going for them are becomming bad things, microsofts hype is a dubble edge sword, not enough 360s have been made and people are starting to figure out that to get 360live and a game will cost them 1000 dollars. then the ps3 has no selling features besides its name and the promise that finalfantasy will continue playing on it, even though the guy who made it wont touch a playstation again so theres there last selling feature gone. then nintendo... its gained DVD playback and FREE WIFI (holy crap free? thats somthing microsuck would and could never do). its gained an SD media slot for saves the ulimate in backwards compatablity (the soal reason i want to portablize that thing) that nunchuk thing though wont sell tomany people but if you have big enough hands and can play GTA with one hand you can get the picture. so nintendos price, microsucks hype and sonys name are all that people are going to look for. good luck in picking next winter.

Atari had tons of history, didnt stop them going under
Quick question how can you say most of the PS2 games sucks when you yourself claim to have "barely played yours"
DVD playback? that was already in the PS2 and the Xbox so made by "microsuck" there goes the un-biased debate....

Yeah but a small bit of that "huge pile of history* is to do with videogames, the fact they made playing cards at the turn of the centuary doesnt make them better at the videogame market
