You know, I've had this same problem. I'm a senior in high school, and my Dad is an electrical engineer. He said that the problem was that I was using only ONE ground wire from the PSOne screen, and that because of that I was drawing too much current through those little wires on the PSOne screen. Try hooking up all four ground wires instead of one, it seemed to work for me.

i'll give that a try
btw
whenever i connect all of the grounds the lcd looses the power and the nes turns on
so the nes is getting power (i know this cause the led lights up)
finals are going to be tearing me a new one for a couple weeks but here's hoping i get a free night to work on my baby
thanks for the help

Ok, well, just as an explaination for others, the problem here is a ground resistance issue. The little wires that the PSOne uses in its origional ribbon cable are too small to handle the extra current load of adding the NES. So, you can either use bigger wires (sound stupid, but its true!) or use more wires. The PSOne was desined cheaply, so if the designers could get away with less they would. Time to upgrade the ground wires!
