Modding the XBOX

Post by Geebs61 »

Ok, so tomorrow I am modding my cousins XBOX. I was wondering if any of you have actually done this. The main point of modding it is to run emulators for other systems(NES, SNES, etc...) I have spent a lot of time on Xbox-scene and I am still a little confused about what I do with the emulators, do I copy them to the hard drive and then burn an xISO with the games on it?

BTW, I am putting a Xenium Ice Solderless in it.

you CAN put the roms on a xiso disk, but it would be dumb. just copy the roms into the emulator foler(read the emulator manuals for more info)

I modded my xbox with the xenium chip. I tried solderless at first, but in the end I just soldered the thing to the board.

I have modded my Xbox and also instaled a 250GB harddrive.
I have also modded 4 others for friends. DO IT!!! You wont regret it!!
Be carefull and don't Fry it.

After you have it modded you can FTP in and load on all of the games and emulators that you want.

I have emulators for atari 2600, NES, SNES, N64, MAME and all work very well. I also have about 50 games loaded onto my hard drive, and still plenty of space left.

I also can surf the net and I have a media player that can play anything from mp3, ogg, Divix, Mpeg and view jpgs and more.

Also I am in the process of flashing new bios to bank 2 of my mod chip and will run a Linux distro on the X-Box. So with linux just hook up a keyboard and mouse and you have a 733MHz linux computer. Enjoy!!

Modding your X-Box is the only way to go. Get a chip with a disable switch like the Executer so you can still use X-Box Live.

Well, I did the mod today, and at first it was a disaster. His XBOX is version 1.6, which means the solderless adapter won't work, So I have to rebuild the LPC. This wasnt a big problem until I found out that the only wire he had was 24 awg stranded. Okay, I manage that. But his solder was designed for plumbing, was a larger gauge than the wire I was using, and had a rosin core. I wish I had a picture of what I managed to do with these materials because it was horrendous. I dont think I have had solder points that ugly since my day soldering six years ago. I need to solder five wires, I managed to get three and a half in a matter of four hours, when I finally said "eff this! take me to RadioShack!" so we went and got some 30awg wire, and silver bearing solder to the tune of .015" diameter. Went home and finished the last of it in less than 10 minutes.

After reassembling I booted it up and configured the retail kernel. Boot the kernel and get a screen saying the XBOX needed to be serviced. Error code "I can't tell because the tv I am using is cutting off the majority of the first number" its either 05 or 15. I am hoping its 05 because that means all I need to do is lock the hard drive. If its 15, it means its an unkown error and I am screwed. Turns out it was 05, good deal. Now I need to upload all the emulators and put in the new dasboard.

It works great, I am copying emulators over to it right now.
