hmm
i would if i thought they'd know anything about it =\ the store is basically a warehouse store of lots of parts, and when i bought stuff, they didn't even bother to check my count of parts in the bags
would they sell it for $7 if they knew how to work it? if i knew how to work this thing, i'd probably go back and buy ALL of them, and then sell em on ebay with intructions

Well, they'd only sell it if it was not worth very much to them. I doubt it would accept a composite signal (probably custom made for a certain application.) Unfortunately I don't think there is a way to make it work (You can use the back light though if you buy an EL inverter here allelectronics.com)

The fact that it uses an EL panel, and is thus blue, probably means its some sort of black and white thing.

That is most definitely a monochrome LCD, and it's controllerless to boot. I'm sorry to say that that screen is completely worthless to you for anything relating to portables. It can, on the other hand, be used for displaying info about your computer. Here's my LCD, connected through my printer port:

There are entire communites for this type of thing.

That looks like a monochrome graphics display... I know for a fact that OKI Incorperated makes Character and Graphic LCD controllers. GOogle search the name of the OKI chips and add datasheet to the end of the model number.
tremblay was right about the communities. I googled some of the chips and got a lot of forum results.
