yep, if you take a look at the first pic in the post above, you'll see on both sides where the aluminum strip comes straight down from the sides of the screen, instead of staying with the curve of the plastic. That's where I will attach the split controller (I'm just cutting a 6 button controller in half, and using that instead of wiring my own tact switches).

Looks like you're doing a great job so far...I was toying with the idea of another Genesis portable using the model 3 but I was concerned about all the work it would take for a custom case. Hey if you can, try running it off 5v from your battery pack and taking out the 7805 regulator. It will improve your battery life and heat dissipation a lot!!

And yeah, I did make the first Saturn portable...but I broke it not long after the initial test run. Talk about a sensitive system! The biggest problem is the Saturn has NO short-to-ground protection!! Talk about crazy.... I ended up breaking SEVEN saturns trying to make that portable (all the shorting problem) and I eventually put it aside because it was ripping a hole in my pockets. I'll take it up again probably this summer especially since I'm always learning more about the field...

It's not on my website because it was never 100% complete. I'll definitely finish it someday though, I love the Saturn far too much to leave that console unportablized (wow that sooo isn't a word) . Also, for anyone interested I discovered the easiest and best way to do a 50hz/60hz mod on any model Saturn (without cutting those damn fine traces ontop of the PCB)...

update: everything is pretty much done! All I have left to do is paint it. Here's a few pics...









I know it's a little goofy looking with the controller sticking out of both sides, but it's really quite comfortable. This screen is a vast improvement over the one in my nesp, I put aluminum foil behind the diffuser and used 5 leds instead of 3. Hopefully after Thanksgiving weekend I'll have some time (and my airbrush!) and I can fill in the gaps and paint.

Maybe you could try adding a Sega logo decal on it to make it look official too

LOL, I never thought of that, but now that you've said it I can't look at it and not see a penguin I think I'm coming up with a new paint idea (seriously though, that would be cool if I painted it like a penguin)

That is very nice! I love it!

Part of it is that the circuitry is visible and the wires are well arranged. As a person who always tries to get 'see through' game boys, that appeals to me greatly.
