Oh no, not another question about those *!@$% screws.

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

Hi guys,

I guess I'm being a bit cheap, but is there anyone out there that would be willing to let me "borrow" their Nintendo screwdriver if I pay for postage both ways?

I'm planning a n64p project, & figure if I can get a screw driver I will just unscrew 3 or n64s, then return the screw driver to its rightful owner. Thanks.

Wrong size.

I have a bit I might send your way, if you send me an envelope with a stamp so I can mail it back. PM me.

Or if you have some small copper tubing and a chainsaw file... Make one for free! (Minus cost of band-aids)

you could also try the bic ink pen method... it'll take you a try or two to get it, but then it's pretty easy. I managed to get a gamecube apart in about 5 minutes once I got the hang of it. I think there's a post on here (probably a sticky) that covers it, but here's the basic idea.

-take the ink out of a bic pen (the white, softer plastic ones)
-heat it up with a lighter until the end softens (I waited until it started to turn brown a little)
-jam it over the screw, apply pressure for about 20 seconds, then let it sit a few more seconds to finish hardening.
-push down and turn!
-spend 2-3 days being happy that you got it apart before a screwdriver would have come in the mail :)

heat up the screw with a soldering iron till the sides start to get gooey then pull them out with plyers.

Sorry I stole your post G-force

Hi guys,

I'd like to put a battery onto my nintendo 64 in a manner similar to what I did with my playstation.

I want to do this mostly to test that I can get my n64 working off of a battery. Do you guys think that this will work. where the N64 has that funky cartrige type adapter. Also what else do you guys think I would need to do in order to achieve this.

Thanks.

Just give the 12V line anything between 7.2V and 30V, and 3V to the two 3.3V lines.

Bigtime off topic: Just curious, does that huge black box on the ac adaptor part automatically split the voltages up for u??

Yes. So you'll need to have 7.5v-30v for the 5v line (goes through 7805) and exactly 3.3v for the 3.3v line (Any lower, and bad video distortion occurs!)

One question...
isnt melting the scews out of the cartridge bad wouldnt that make it fall apart? or do you have to tape it back together?

You could always just use new screws to put it back together. That will make it easier to take them out the next time anyways.
