Learn how microprocessors work, then study the architecture of modern SD/CF/blah blah readers then learn PIC assembly/basic and your good to go.

Otherwise, add a cart slot.

The layouts currently online are wrong from what I remember. They may have been updated by now, but I doubt it.

I'd get hold of a Nomad or mod a Mega Jet if your desparate (and rich).

Thats a lot of traces..

Sure is! Pretty confident I can do it though, I have a number of ideas of how I'm going to go about that, plus a few methods of cutting the board without lifting those traces.

I'm actually starting the design of the PCB right now, should be done inside a week. We'll see ...

Just need some interest to make it worth doing!

Maybe I'll make up a CAD model to show you guys what I mean.

If you are interested, just post here!

I've not designed the PCB yet but I do have a stripped Radica board that'd be easy to put into CAD and modify for our needs.

Doesn't seem to be that popular so far though, I can only assume due to the Radica's ...

The little amp in there I suspect gets too much voltage.

You can bypass it and get stereo out of it at the same time, or just cut the power line to it and stick a resistor in between.

Careful when soldering to it though, these little suckers overheat pretty quick.

The PSG channel is lost though ...

I wouldn't need to desolder it, I have a layout for the board so can just cut away the surrounding PCB leaving the chip then solder that to a custom PCB.

Easy ;)

Yep, the SF2 Radica has an extra controller port on it.

Are these getting hard to find now then? Guess my custom PCB might look a bit more attractive now then :D

Interest thread: Radica GOAC PCB with built-in Cart slot

It's been ages since I visited this little project but found it in the loft yesterday and since I've been fiddling with circuit design decided maybe it's time to make up some custom PCBs with GOACs built in so guys who want to do this don't have to pull their hair out anymore getting it to work plus ...

Well colour me blue and spank my monkey, I found my Radica which I added a cart slot to and guess what? Looks like I added a stereo headphone port to the little sucka!

If I remember correctly, this eliminated the distortion too, but needed to be amplified. The on-board amp was a cheap and nasty ...

The Radica only has comp out sadly. You can add an RGB encoder but it's a bit fiddly.

Did anyone figure out how to sort out the horrable sound on this thing?

Hmm. I think I may be a little confused about this power regulator and what to do with it. It's not inline with my power line on the hipgear pcb, but I did desolder it and tried to bypass it (when it was still connected).

I'll try 4 AAs in the mean time, but I do think diffrent Hip Gears have ...

Hipgear power consumption

And loads of it the greedy little fella!

I have a PAL PS2 '4gamers' screen pad (marketed in US as HipGear). I think it might be diffrent though.

I by-passed the 7808 (in this case the 78M08), added my 6v line, flipped the switch.... ziltch.

"Ok.." I thought, "I'll connect it to my wall wart and ...
