hi all. i have a couple questions.
1. is it okay to run the n64's 3.3v line from a separate battery pack as the 12v one?
2. if so, is it okay to wire the grounds from the 3.3v and the 12v one together?
3. i have some rechargeable AA nimh batteries that im trying to run it from. they are only 1.2v ...

i would say a gamecube portable screen. it can plug right into the A/V out on the n64 motherboard, so you don't have to hack the AV ports at all. there are some auctions on ebay for gamecube screens right now with really cheap buy-it-now's, and thats where i got mine.
