Video-a-rama

Yes I know this new Benheck.com isn’t fully functional yet, but I’m working on it slowly. I switched servers on the host and thus started with a “clean slate”. Sort of nice, but I’m having to rebuild a lot.

Next up for re-functionality are the movie downloads. I’m creating iPod video-sized versions of Adventure, The Adventurous, Lizard of Death and Port Washington. These will slowly start to come online in the next week, in honor of Wednesday the 14th of March being the 1 year anniversary of me finishing Port Washington. It may seem trivial but believe me, it was a red letter day in my life.

Speaking of that, what if we made another movie? There’s a good question… We have one in mind (no, not Port Washington 2) that we believe would be quite entertaining. I’m wondering, if we got some funding, would anyone in or near southern Wisconsin be willing to help? We’d need actors, model builders, CGI artists, rotoscopers, puppeteers, creature fabricators and a 1979 Trans-Am with Bondo spots. Sound interesting? Effects and interiors would be done next winter, main shooting in 2008. Shoot me an email if you’re in the area.

We’re also planning a full video podcast for Episode 15. Thus it’ll probably come out next weekend instead of next Wednesday, but hopefully it’ll be worth the wait.

Projects I Would Do in a Heartbeat (Time permitting)

Some of you may have seen my last post and thought it meant I was sick of building everything. Not true, I’m just sick of being asked for the same 3 things over and over. As far as not doing any more movies, I should clarify – not making any more with my own money. I’m glad many of you enjoyed Port Washington but I’d really enjoy having the money it cost back in my pocket.

As a counterpoint, here’s a list of project ideas I would enjoy trying:

  • Custom pinball machine – I’ve been planning one for 2 years but have never had the time or money, at the same time. Problem is I’d want to keep it. If you listen to our podcasts you’ve probably heard about this project.
  • Domestic automatic can crusher – Would be the coolest thing ever.
  • Alternative fuel car of the future – I’ve always wanted to build a car, I think that would be quite the challenge. It would have to be sporty and have a cool stereo however. (No Sparkomatics) The Tesla thing is cool but it’s not really a “people’s car”.
  • Hub-based main house PC / Xbox 360 / PS3 / furnace – Hey, those things put out a lot of heat!
  • Mass-produced single-handed game controllers – As mentioned before.
  • A robot.
  • Lead singer in a country music band – Much more interesting than an N64 portable.
  • Apple ][ portable – It’s shocking that I’ve only been asked about this maybe once in 7 years.
  • Design consultation work -If your company is working on a product, especially game related, and would like my input, please contact me to discuss.

So there you go – the kinds of projects I am interested in these days. Now I must get back to this new laptop…

The updated Benheck.com website is underway, and one of the new features will be the “Benheck.com Theatre” This allows you to download any of my last 4 (main) films in a variety of formats. Includes Adventure, The Adventurous, Lizard of Death and Port Washington.

In the meantime I’ve made a “beta” version of this on the current site so you can get in there and download some stuff. Enjoy!

“Echoes of the Past” documentary trailer online

The web trailer for our upcoming documentary “Echoes of the Past” is now online and available for download. The documentary explores the history, myths and legends of a long-abandoned ghost town by the name of “Pere Cheney” in northern Michigan.

Dave and Will explore a northern path near the ghost town.

We’re still deep in post-production but plan to have the finished product out before the end of year. In the meantime you can watch the promotional trailer we’ve put together, available in a variety of formats, using the links below.

Stay tuned to One Man Down Productions and Benheck.com for more information on the documentary as the process nears competition.

It’s a Wrap!

Fear not, I have returned safely from our documentary shoot in northern Michigan. Here’s a photo of the intrepid, fearless crew involved with this project…

The Echoes of the Past crew, circa 2006

This is an assortment of different crews, from One Man Down Productions, to the Dead Workers Party and myself and Dale Nauertz from the “Port Washington” team. All in all we got along well and collected quite a bit of interesting footage and interviews. The trailer for this project will be released the same day as my “super portable”, so stay tuned!

Ghost Town Documentary “Echoes of the Past”

This week I am heading out to film our long-planned documentary on a haunted ghost town someplace in the Midwest. We’re calling it “Echoes of the Past”, with a subtitle being the location we’re visiting (name to be released after we’re done filming)

As far as my involvement, I am co-director, director of photography and I also came up with the basic outline for the piece. The shoot runs Thursday through Sunday, editing will take place this fall.

The target is a 1-2 hour documentary filled with interviews, history of the town and a finale involving an all-night stay in the allegedly haunted ruins of the town and nearby graveyard. We’re rolling about 7 cameras for that so we should get good coverage. While not specifically a “ghost hunting” type of thing, we’re bring temperature meters, infrared flashlights and various recording equipment.

Look for a trailer to be released in the weeks following the shoot (second half of August), probably around the same time I finish my long delayed, super-complex “uber-portable”

For more information and podcasts, or if you’re interested in possibly taking a look at or picking up the final product for release, please visit the One Man Down Productions website.

Port Washington DVD’s

I am burning and selling a small batch of Port Washington DVD’s. If you liked the film why not donate some money and get a swell boxed copy of your very own? Play it on your big screen TV / home theatre system, not a MP4 compression-o-matic computer version. (Though those are available)

It’s a 2 disc set that contains the movie, 2 audio commentaries, text commentary, behind the scenes, bloopers and outtakes, “making of” special effects deconstruction, storyboard-to-sequence comparisons, pre-production and more! Includes full color case labeling so it’ll look swell in your collection.

For the bargain price of $20 US, including shipping! (to aforementioned US) Wow, you can’t really beat that. Well, you can, perhaps with a big stick, but oh well. Anyway, if interested simply click below – thanks!

Oh yeah. Hook me up with that Port Washington DVD action. Yeah.
