The Audio FX Pro 5+1 Headset

The “mystery product” is no longer one. With the help of eDimensional I have designed a custom USB gaming headset called the Audio FX Pro 5+1, as shown below.

Audio FX Pro 5+1 Headset

This is the first Benheck branded product, plus it has an exclusive design by yours truly. Tired of headsets that all look the same (gray body+gray trim+gray interior=blah) I went for a retro feel, like something from the 40’s. These are really nice headsets, with full sized earcups that fit over your ears, not pressing against them. This is very comfortable, and also blocks external noises (ie, someone telling you to take out the trash). The Audio FX Pro 5+1 should start arrives in stores in early July. For a more information and a photo of the box, read on!

Want to buy Rev 5.1 circuit boards?

Since I kind of doubt I’ll sell enough VCSp Rev 5.1’s to use up all the circuit boards I’ve ordered (kind of screwed myself on that by announcing the Gameport 😉 I’m willing to sell them to anyone who’s interested. They would be sold as a set of (2), as shown below. Atari board not included.

This is the acorn that will grow a mighty oak
A 4″ x 4″ hacked 2600, with the custom circuit boards on each side.

They are very easy to use and are well-labeled. All indicators match those in my book and most common Atari 2600 pinouts.

I’m thinking about $30 for boards only, $75 for stuffed boards (parts soldered on + my labor, shipping inside US included). Stuffed boards will also include battery holders (2 AA cells behind each board). Parts lists will be available for for the blank boards. Email me or discuss below.

How to Get Famous

I was working on my presentation for the Midwest Gaming Classic, which I’m calling “Diary of an Internet Celebrity”, and I came across this old tidbit:

Classicgaming.com Mailbag

Read through it and see what you can find. This is the first time I mentioned the Atari project to the internet, and thus this simple mailbag entry “started it all”. Look for more fun behind-the-scenes stories like this during my presentation at the Midwest Gaming Classic!

Port your games around with the Gameport

I’ve been helping with the case design of a new product called the Gameport. (I also named it.) Basically it’s a portable, multi-system emulator which you load games onto via a USB port, kind of like a digital camera in reverse. Currently it runs Atari 2600 and Colecovision cores, and other systems are possible through software upgrades. Currently the size is 3.5″ x 5″ x 1″, the final product will probably be a bit smaller on the X-Y and not as thick.

Benheck Podcast Episode 20 – Controversial Soapbox Edition

Usually we shy away from anything vaguely political on this site, but with gas prices now at nothing-other-than-absurd levels Jones and I felt we should chime in about something.

In topic 1 of this podcast we ponder why certain habits, indulgences and sins are regulated, taxed and banned in this country (or rather by state and city levels) yet there is no apparent limit to how many gas-guzzling single-occupant SUV’s there can be on the road. We don’t advocate the banning of either, but discuss why governments allow one and not the other, when both adversely affect people other than the offenders. We also touch on the “giant trucks used to haul air” problem…

Topic 2, on a “let’s fix this” note we discuss alternative fuels of the future and their effect on the price of tacos and french fries. See, there’s some technology talk in this episode. Finally we have a segment in which we interview that “average American game-buying dude” we keep mentioning, Joe Six Pack! Enjoy and discuss below, but please keep it civil.
