Hacking for dummies

I am sorry, I am a complete noob, but I have some qustions I have to ask. For starters, I recently bought a Famiclone NES (the joypad thing), would that be a good first hack? Second question is, what do I need to do (in simple non-Jargon terms) to get it to play NES cartrigies? Third, If this is tooo difficult then what should I build? Thankyou for your time.

Buy a NES to Famicom adapter

I recommend knitting or cross-stitch.
