could someone confirm my ps1screen pinout?

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

could someone confirm my ps1screen pinout?

Post by b_w_johan »

I have the following scheme i followed, and traced back the lines I (think I) needed.

I looked at this thing,( http://english.cxem.net/pinout/pinout28.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) and with my multimeter I've followed the lines to the cable.

In the following sketch i've put the screen (lcd) facing down, and started my counting on the left connector with pin1, and the right connector(leftpart) continued counting with 11 to 22.

Image
on connector 1:
2+4 makes mono audio if attached together
10 is the videofeed for composit

on connector 2:
11 is 5V+
16 grounds 5V
21(white) is 7.5V
22(blue) grounds 7.5V

everything works kinda OK, had a few minor pronblems but i think this I've fixed that (screen wouldn't stay on, but apearently thats because of the amperage of the batteries, it worked a bit better with the correct batteries screen backlight wouldn't stop after flashing on when power was applied.
The new "problem" is the fact that the colours don't look to good on the screen.
Also i'd like to have composit out so i could watch it on the bigscreen as well, should i just tap into the video feed line, and connect that to the innerpart of the composite connector?

But that raises the second question, the composite connector needs videoground. after looking at the ps11screen pinout, there is a videoground as well, but in mario's instructables i didn't (or maybe misread it) nothing about the videoground... should i connect this to the 5vground ?? or is there another ground? should both the ps screen AND the composite connector be connected to the same ground??

If you are having picture issues, check the ribbon cable connection, that usually helps. Make sure the screen is getting enough power too.

As for pinouts, try these threads:
Screen FAQ / useful info
Turtorial: Removing the Bottom of a PSone Screen this may not be your goal, however Erlex's photos do show some alternate pinouts that may be of use to you.

And the screen and console grounds should be tied together.

power is Volts or Amps?

Thanks, i found thisone lastnight and i figured my audio isn't wired correctly XD i have right+headphone right connected to eachother rest seems to be OK (although i also read that someone used the chroma line for composite ?!) not sure if it was in this topic, but i read this on the forum somewhere.

I did that, the resistor goes to ground, and that same ground goes to the screen 5v ground, but i'm not sure if i need to use VIDEOGROUND as well?

Anyway, i'm going to desolder everything, gonna fit the case to the parts, and then recut the wires on perfect length, maybe some of the soldering parts aren't good enough.

So for now i'm kinda sure everythings correct (besides the audio).

If someone things i'm doing something wrong please give me a shout before everythings cut in shorter wires :)

I'm looking at this link (http://english.cxem.net/pinout/pinout28.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) and it doesn't seem to match any of the pinouts we commonly use.

May I ask why you appear to be using resistors on your video line (from what I can see on the pic) and connecting it to ground and then pin 12?

As for "VIDEOGROUND," a ground is a ground and unless somehow you have broken continuity, you should be fine with just one, but tying them all together shouldn't hurt.

Funny enough, it's both. P=VI where P is power, V= potential difference (measured in volts), I= current (measured in amps)... What are you pwoering this thing off of? Is it with wall power are batteries for testing?

Well, I had the idea, it is the same pinout, just the pinout 28 link leeds to the pinout on the ps adapter, i traced them back to follow the same slot1/slot2 like in the first link of youre previous post.
But i didn't have time anymore, so after the last test (friday) i put it away, friday i have time again. i'll try to check the traces again.

Okee, well the screen gets a direct link from 5x 1.5V2700 ma battery's so 7.5V and 2700ma total.

Then it runs down to 5V, the screen + console are being fed 5V fom that point no idea how to measure what ma is still left there.

Yihaaa!

Screen works :D

Stupid me/salesman, asked for 7.5V, he gives me 5 rechargable AA batteries, unfortunately, rechargeables give 1.2V ipv 1.5V

Now i have 6 of them, and the screen worked properly, i've connected all grounds to the ground so maybe that wasn't needed but atleast it works, reconnected sound to pin2 #2+#3, but this doesn't give me sound, so i read a little, and figured headphone needed a shortcut (those 3 hp.. pins), but now i heard some buzzing sound, and the screen started flashing so inmediatly disconnected battery's and removed the short over the 3 headphone pins, tested again and working again.

So how should i connect the sound?

its for the NES, so mono sound.

Thanks, Johan
