Quick battery question
ok, i am using an RC car Battery, like the ones you can pick up at radio shack. But I was wondering if i need a circuit protector if im just unplugging the battery to charge it, like into a AC adapter. I was thinking i wouldn't need one, but im a noob and i should most likely ask before i blow myself up. It is a 7.2V 2100 MAh Rc battery liek I said, Ni-MH Battery. Ask if you need more info.

Re: Quick battery question
NiMH is the exact same thing as most rechargeable AA's, so no protection circuit needed.

Show me a picture and I can answer that question. You DO need one, but there's a chance it already has one.samjc3 wrote:while we are on the subject, do i need a protection circuit for li-ion batteries? ive got a 7400mah 7.2v battery, but i dont know how to charge it.

it does have a circuit on it, but as near as i can tell, its made to output 3 different voltages. the battery is off a phillips pet1002 portable dvd player, by the way.

Re: Quick battery question
I think it probably has it built-in circuit. Get a second opinion.

well, if it's a DVD player battery, get a picture off the internet on google or something.

Re: Quick battery question
i would, but it would be in the case, which wouldnt show anyone anything. ive got it out of the plastic thing. its six cells, and i think they are 3.6 volt cells, wired by 2's then in series between the six.ABCinc wrote:well, if it's a DVD player battery, get a picture off the internet on google or something.

Re: Quick battery question
Wait, don't you need some sort of protection circuit for NiMH batteries? What's to prevent them from eventually overcharging and venting?

Re: Quick battery question
That's what a battery charger is for. It has the protection for that built in. Li-ion batteries really need a protection circuit to prevent overdischarging.Bibin wrote:Wait, don't you need some sort of protection circuit for NiMH batteries? Re: Quick battery question
While we're here talking about batteries, I'm a noob, but I'm beginning a SNESp build, and my dad has some spare batteries lying around. They say 6V4.5AH on the front. Could I use this as a power source for my SNESp?

Re: Quick battery question
No, you'd need either 5v batteries or 7v batteries unless you want to use a step up regulator.glassjoe92 wrote:While we're here talking about batteries, I'm a noob, but I'm beginning a SNESp build, and my dad has some spare batteries lying around.
