Gave up on waiting for the ION

Just this week, I made a Gaming PC. I bought a xfx nForce 750i/9300 mATX motherboard w/ an intel dual core processor (2.8 GHz), a e-Geforce 8400 graphics card and 4gb of ram. Its like a NES PC but in an actual PC case. and I plan to make the OS for now windows 7.0 beta 1 (64-bit version). The ION couldn't match up to this PC.

exactly. the point is that its remarkably small and power efficient and at the same time has a respectable amount of power. a micro ATX board doesn't compare.

Yes. You can get mini itx boards that take socket 775 CPUs, but you still have a somewhat large power draw. Expensive and produce a lot of heat for something like an NES, too.

Ok, maybe there is but I built this for around 500 bucks. It maybe produce but so will the ION. I would get the ION maybe later to build a handheld. Especially if Nvidia put the chipset into a netbook or something.

The Asus N10j is a netbook with a GeForce 9300m; the closest thing on the market so far.

No, this isn't an ION clone. There's no way to get Pentium D performance out of the Atom, and your setup most likely draws far more power and puts out 10 times as much heat. (Does your Pentium D have a 2w TDP? Didn't think so. )

A few questions, though.

Why 2.8 ghz dual-core? The E8400 is only around $150, and has more cache than the Pentium D line.
GeForce 8400?! That's getting pretty old! Especially now that you can get a GTX 260 for around $200. The 9300 built into the motherboard is roughly the same, performance-wise.

The E8400 is the ultimate Core 2 Duo ever made! It's got the best price to performance ratio for an Intel CPU, and has a whopping 6MB of cache. Pentium D's are trash compared to the mighty E8400. It runs cooler and faster than any Pentium D.

Last time I checked about a month ago the GTX 260 was still mid-upper $200's (Literally like $260 ). The ATI Radeon HD 4870 is a great alternative, it's $200 or lower (From Sapphire anyway).

When I built my Computer 2 months ago, I looked hard for bargains. Sure I love Nvidia and I didn't get a 1st part brand motherboard, but with the fact that I got 8GB of Ram (DDR2 1066 Mhz) for $50, a CrossfireX Supporting motherboard, and a Radeon HD 4870 that performs better than a GTX 260 for less than a GTX 260, it made it all worth it.

What do you mean by that?

Yes, ION probably couldn't match it, but it could easily fit in a backpack and run for a few hours without being plugged in. Just depends on what you need, and you clearly didn't need mobile power.

Yep. E8400 beats the rest of Intel's dual-core lineup on a price/performance ratio. There's no reason to get any other C2D model, or any Pentium D or Celeron D now (unless you're really strapped for cash). But, for multithreaded performance for software that can take advantage of 4 cores, the Q9550 is even better because it's basically 2 E8400s stuck together at less than twice the price.

IF you guys want a powerful pc in matx form, go get a jetway AM2 board with built in nvidia 8800. You can put any am2 CPU you want, and even have a lowform cooler as long as you up the fan becasue it states it only handles cpus up to 50 or 75 w....but ya the ION boards, I can't wait!

This is not the same as an ION. An ION is small for embedded and mobile applications. This is moderately large for gaming and multimedia applications.

The Radeon HD 4670 is a great deal for $100. I've got one, which doesn't work well with my motherboard. For that matter, I don't remember the last time I had anything that worked well with this motherboard. I'm getting a new mobo soon. Is the P5QL PRO good? What about the regular P5QL? I'm probably just going to use my current processor, a Core 2 Duo E6300 (hey, it was the latest and greatest at the time).
