DC -> Pc Help Please?!

Hiya I'm brand new here and, I hope this is in the right forum. Well, here goes...

I've always admired the DC, but wanted something more from it. I've also loved MODs and things of that sort but in actuality I'm a complete n00B to it all, I'd love to get a DC and be able to surf on it, I have a broad band connection and all of that, but I really wanted to know, just what would I need to do? i.e. What would I need to buy, or obtain to be able to use my DC as much of a PC as it can possibly be? I only use the net to surf anyhow, and write forums, that kind of thing, maybe download a few things like, AIM but that's about it, the average PC user right here. I'd just love to be able to get by on a DC though for the time being, I have to give up my Dell dimension desktop here soon and I'd love to still be able to do the stuff I do, only on my DC instead. Install VGA ports and stuff, I'd like to do that as well as I here it's much better reception, I have a HD flat screen and it has a VGA port im pretty sure so... Yeah...

All in all as I said I'm completely green so If anyone was caring enough to help me through this, I would be insanely grateful. I mean, I've never even soldered before, but I'm willing to learn how and I'm no idiot. I'll be a senior in HS this coming year. Anyways, please, if ANYONE can lend a big helping hand in any way. I'd truly appreciate it.

You'll need:
- a dreamcast
- a vmu
- a controlelr
- a broadband adaptor + its cd to surf the web

If you want to feel more like a pc then:
- a dc mouse or mouse adaptor for dc
- a dc keyboard or keyboard adaptor for the dc

Well, I was thinking more on the lines of being able to run windows on it? Something to that effect? Maybe be able to add an external Hard drive? I know you can do that in a manner of speaking to a normal ps through the usb port but yeah...

You can run linux on it using a simple cd, and maybe a old version of windows too, but forget about vista

About the HDD, some ppl actually created one, but it's damn hard and I didn't saw any plans to do it.

If you want to run an OS that will support the BBA, NetBSD. It's a lot like Linux, but Sega helped the NetBSD team in developing and supporting the OS on the Dreamcast.

I don't think there is a way to add an external hard drive, at least without getting into building your own hardware. A cheaper and easier means of adding external storage would be to have a network server.

well it would seem that, If i cant connect anything usb based to it, i.e. a flash storage device, or a hard drive, then thered be relatively no point in installing an OS right? 'cause all I wanted was to be able to type up say a word document and port it to a flash drive. So that last part isnt at all possible?

I mean would I just be better off in trying this crap with my ps3?

I don't know how possible it is, but there are adapters for the VMU. If it's possible to save files from Linux or NetBSD to a VMU, and then move it to another computer and pull the fles off that would be close. THe only problem is that I'm not sure if the VMU can be written to in that way, and they're only about 128k, lastly being that you need a parallel adapter to connect the VMU to a computer.
