Bought an HD camera

I bought an HD camera (Sony Handycam HDR-SR1) and I have to say the quality is pretty damn sweet. The only problem is that the format comes in AVCHD, which isn't widely supported by other video editing programs. The only format I can export it to so far is MPEG-2, and the quality is still good, but I was wondering if there is any other format it could turn into? Anybody else own an HD camera?
