Gamegear battery!!!

yesterday i was rummaging through my older brother's old gamegear stuff and he had a gamegear battery. after looking at it for a little while i realized it would fit inside of a genesis2 and a psone screen. i didnt want to test it with my psone screen because i thought the voltage may be a little higher thatn the sggested 7.2 but i knew the genesis had a 7805, i tried and and it worked like a charm, i will try and get a pic of the battery later but it says it outputs 7.2 on the back and has 1.8A, these batteries could be a decent powr supply and are probably really cheap on ebay what do you guys think. it can also charge and play at the same time.

heh, I rember those. They were a MUST if you had a game gear and wanted halfway decent battery life. It sounds like it should work fine. The genesis doesn't draw much power and with an LED modded screen, you should get a pretty deceent play time (total clueless guess of 4-6 hours.). Hmm... Do you know if the cells used are Ni-Mh or Ni-Cad? If they're Ni-Cads I wouldn't use them, they are just awful. And if they're that old it's pretty likely they are Ni-cad's...

I realise you probably want to make this cheap, but if money were not an object you could always get some Ni-Mh AA's, they have them up to 2700 mah now (maybe even more, beena while since I checked) and that would give you some more play time.

The screen should be fine, daguuy's post in the N64 forum said he took it up to 9.2v, I think(if your screen gets fried, I claim no responsibility).

im not sure but your probably right about being Ni-Cads i just figured it'd make an easy genesisp for anyone attempting one on a cheap budget

BTW, about the Game Gear's sh*tty battery life, can you use those Rayovac ic3 NiMH 2300 mAh rechargeable AA batteries? I have a bad feeling about this...
