I just recently became a iUser, and set up boot camp on my dads macbook earlier tonight.

It's not fair to compare the Mac Pro with a Wal-Mart Compaq. The Mac Pro is a high-end workstation aimed at a professional market, uses dual quad-core Intel Xeon processors by default, and comes with an OS and software that can take full advantage of them. Most consumer desktop PCs , on the other hand, just run middle-of-the-road Core 2 Duos with a 32 bit OS. For a fair comparison, you need to find another Wintel based dual Xeon workhorse.

How many people buy Macs for workstations, honestly? I'm sure some people do, but the majority of their user-base at this point are a buncha college kids with rich parents who screw around with GarageBand when they should be studying because they just got some "inspiration". The average consumer who's running an email client, browsing the web, and maybe on some sort of messaging app isn't going to notice any substantial difference.

If it's a workstation where you'd be making a living with it, yes a Mac Pro is the godsend of pc, but if it's your average joe then a Mac is something they'd have to drop some of their kid's college fund on it. I know that most of the general populous doesn't give a damn about it unless they heard good things. I just think that they're overrated because they're just pretty and fun if you like work or video editing.

The average consumer doesn't need a Mac Pro, you're right, so they can buy an iMac or a Mac mini or a Macbook, which are just as close to equivalent Windows PCs as the Mac Pro is to a high-end workstation.

You'd be surprised. If you look at some of the retail Windows games, there are some that have an OS X native version in the same package. Wikipedia has a partial list. (Doom 3, Call of Duty 2 and 4, Guitar Hero 3 and Aerosmith, Pixar movie tie-ins, Penny Arcade Adventures, Unreal Tournament 3...)

Plus there's always that little thing called Boot Camp, so you can run Billy's OS for all your precious games. (I've seen it in action on a couple job interviews; it actually seems to run Vista better than a lot of midrange Circuit City computers.)

Wow, not a bad list, I guess. Certainly not close at all to what I can see satisfying a PC gamer, but more than I expected. I don't PC game at all, as I think blowing money on an ultra-powered gaming rig is almost as stupid as buying a Mac, but I digress.
