collinE - (whoever you are) - NO. He started worklog well before the compo was even constructed; disqualified.
Dark-Aries - 11 June is when he started it. Disqualified!
Hopefully kasar will do the honourable thing and delete it from the compo thread. If this compo becomes a farce from people entering systems they started before the compo did there is no point entering the event as it will have no merit or value.

Yes, otherwise why bother?hailrazer wrote:I agree ... June 10th is just way to early. In fact most of it was complete before July 20th.
This needs to stay somewhat fair.
I, and others here, are working hard to complete a system in time. Mine will be quite close to the wire, trying to get it done in time. It would be very unfair if mine is excluded because the 31st August has lapsed if a system started before the compo even started was allowed. Rules are rules and there for a purpose; entries posted after the 31st August are disqualified, entries started before 18th July are disqualified. Simple - live with it; and play fair. Black and white.
PS - what is the UK deadline time for Skyone's comment "The contest ends Sunday, August 31st at 6:00PM PST (9:00PM EST)."

Guys I know...Kasar should get disqualified...but it's a GCNP for god's sake! The most I've seen anybody doing here is a SNESP, (well we got bact's mega PNP system, but those are puny to being with, sorry)
Meh..I just like arguring on the losing sides...I dunno why, my friends do the same thing...We're wierd like that.

Thank you! If you arguers don't want to enter because there will be no "merit" or whatnot, good for you, stand up for that. At least the contest affected everyone.anotherperson wrote:The rules set by Skyone in the first post make no mention of being disqualified if you started some time ago.
Why make a big deal about it? Kinda sucks the fun out of this whole idea and thread. I figure the more portables there are to judge, the more interesting it will be.
With that said I am just finishing off my portable N64 from 2006, and I'd like to submit it for fun and to increase the pool of portables when Judgment Day comes.
To recap for the 20th time, this event was created to inspire projects, not inspire LOL OMG WAIT NO DONT LET HIM ENTER.
Just give it a break already.
Can I submit this portable game system I started working on some time ago? It's main controls are located on the lower half of its front frame. It has four face buttons labelled "A", "B", "SELECT", and "START". The functions of these face buttons vary from game to game, though generally, the START button is used as a "pause" function to temporarily stop gameplay. My system also features a directional pad, allowing up to eight directions of movement in its games.
Here are some tech specs.
* CPU: Custom 8-bit Sharp Z80 core at 4.19 MHz which is similar to an Intel 8080 in that all of the registers introduced in the Z80 are not present. However, some of the instruction set enhancements from the Z80, particularly bit manipulation, are present. Still other instructions are unique to this particular flavor of Z80 CPU. The core also contains integrated sound generation
* RAM: 8 kB internal S-RAM
* Video RAM: 8 kB internal
* ROM: On-CPU-Die 256-byte bootstrap; 256 kb, 512 kb, 1 Mb, 2 Mb, 4 Mb and 8 Mb cartridges
* Sound: 2 Square Waves, 1 programmable 32-sample 4-bit PCM Wave, 1 White noise. The unit only has one speaker, but headphones provide stereo sound
* Display: Reflective LCD 160 × 144 pixels
* Screen size: 66 mm (2.6 in) diagonal
* Color Palette: 4 shades of "gray" (green to (very) dark green)
* Communication: Up to 4 systems can be linked together via serial ports
* Power: 6 V, 0.7 W (4 AA batteries provide ~35 hours)
* Dimensions: 90 mm (W) x 148 mm (H) x 32 mm (D)/3.5" x 5.8" x 1.3"
The system contains the following input/output connectors:
* A power input, located on the left side of the handheld console. The power adapter was included in a rechargeable battery pack kit. Separate editions of the battery pack were made for 110V and 230V countries. The system requires 6V DC of at least 250mA.[9]
* A link cable port, located on the right side. It connects multiple systems, and transfers information between two or more games of the same type or same series. And could be used for other devices, like a printer.
* A 3.5mm stereo headphone jack output is located on the bottom side of the console.
* An input for game cartridges is situated on top of the system.
I started working on my game system back in 1989, when I was just a boy....

People started arguing when a prize was added to this thing. Technically by these standings I can submit all the portables I have ever built. ^_^Skyone wrote:Thank you! Re: Portable-Palooza (submission thread opened!)
These were your "official" rules, as above. 6 weeks, not months or years or a back-catalogue. July 20th 2008 - August 31st 2008. Yes, the idea was to inspire systems to be made (not already made or being made ones), I am all for promoting people to make systems, more the merrier. Sorry, but your reverse in the rules has promoted bad feeling and devalued this compo, so don't label those of us with principles as "arguers". Hey, why even have an end date anymore, after all the start date no longer matters?Skyone wrote: Official Rules and Deadlines
1) The contest will last for 6 weeks (to maintain interest and also inspiration).
5) The contest will commence on Sunday, July 20th. Ending on Sunday, August 31st.
I may still enter as I have worked my nuts off to try and get my system done in the original spirit of the competition, but if there are old systems entered (outside the rules above) then I may not bother as a matter of principle; jury is out at the moment. If I resort to this action then I don't know how involved in this forum I will remain as disillusionment will be a factor. Over to you Skyone.
To me, I am not interested in the prizes, as I stated before. It is the spirit of the compo and the competitiveness of it which is interesting and motivational. If the rules are gone and "anything goes", as seems to be the case, then there is no spirit or competition so no integrity or point either - may as well just change the thread to be "enter whatever portables you have made in the past here" and be done with it.
Like I said before, don't consider people with integrity and principles to be "arguers" or "whining" just because they stand for what they believe in (that is offensive); this is how this forum will lose members ultimately, and I am sure you don't want to promote that...
Re: Portable-Palooza (submission thread opened!)
Do what you please, I personally have made a bigger deal than I actually care about the rules. Go ahead and battle it out with whoever else. If there enough people that don't like the lack of time-frame, they shouldn't vote for those that went outside the dates. That should be enough, in my opinion. In this spirit, I am going to update the official submission thread. Check shortly.bacteria wrote:I may still enter as I have worked my nuts off to try and get my system done in the original spirit of the competition, but if there are old systems entered (outside the rules above) then I may not bother as a matter of principle; jury is out at the moment. However, what I originally should have defined (in my opinion) is a restriction on the contest ending date. That way, it would at least be a bit more tight.
Sorry for any disagreement/inconvenience this has all caused.
