Think I posted this in some other thread, but I might as well stick it here too! "I'm not going to run homebrew when I have to hack the heck out of a console for it."

Now, what do ya'll make of that, eh?

EDIT: Ok, I think I'm going to counter myself by saying: instead of all of us cursing Sony to hell for fighting homebrew, maybe we could do something more constructive, like ask Sony nicely for a safe method of homebrewing? The only reason Sony hates homebrew so much is because the exploits that homebrew rely on are also used to blatantly steal the data from UMD's. If sony could make new firmware openly allowing homebrew, but keeping their own software safe, than everyone would be happy!!!!!1

The only problem with that is we can't be sure everyones gonna try and run homewbrew in a nice inocent way. I mean I wouldn't run roms if I could use homebrew but the fact is other people will. And if Sony would make homebrew work on there PSP it would more than likly be sevierly limited.

Running roms and emulators IS a perfectly "nice and innocent" thing. Sony has absolutely nothing to fear from other companies due to the use of emulators, and they know it too. The only thing NOT nice and innocent is something that is always illegal (roms are perfectly legal in plenty of instances) and harms Sony.

You don't see Microsoft worrying about people running emulators on Windows, do you?

that's right, teraflop! (nb, can i call you flop? heh heh)
but windows isn't comparable to the psp operating system, in that the psp is controlled at all points by sony. windows, by comparison, is much more of an open system- not as open as linux, but much closer to linux than the sony system. the reason why sony wont EVER license any homebrew/emulation software is because they begin to lose control of what the end-user runs on the machine. also they lose profit.

the 2x, of course, IS like linux! so, whatever you want to do on it, you can. as someone's already said, its a completely different corporate philosophy. for that reason the 2x is a real breath of fresh air. i nearly bought the predecessor, but heard the 2x was coming out! so, soon, very soon, it'll be mine (when i can afford it!)... :D

Well Sony has always been really parinoid about people stealing there data, I mean look at the CD incident that happened a couple of months ago.

I seriously thought about buying the GP2X myself, and now that I'm suddenly 399+27+40 dollars richer, I suppose I could. On the other hand, I would look at owning both a PSP and a 2x as a waste of money...

Anyway, I would say the 2x is the best choice for portable gadgetry, followed by the Nokia 770, and then the PSP. I'd buy the 2x for SNES Civ and SimCity alone!
