yeah, usually when I do this kind of stuff I screw up really bad. This time, I took my time and planned it out, so it's pretty good. I also got little help from my dad, who is really good at this kind of thing (he stained all of the doors and moldings, and it looks professional)

wish me luck...

As a few of you have seen in the chatroom, I'm having trouble getting a video signal (i decided to rewire what I have to perfboard so it doesn't "float" in the case) from my atari. I've checked every connection, made sure the video signal didn't hit the ground somehow, and even made sure that I didn't fry any chips (thank God I didn't) but nothing works. I'm starting to think that there is a faulty component, so I'm going to wire everything without the potentiometers in between to determine what's going on. If I get some picture that way, I'll see if I can borrow a piece of breadboard from my electronics class to easily swap each component and determine which one is bad..

I'm gonna have to get some breadboard tomorrow. If I can't get it then, I have absolutely no idea what to do

Are you using bens video mod? If so make sure the 4 wires are connected right, they could be backwards or something. Also did you remember to wire the color delay pot, or whatever its called. Also remember the color pot needs a 7v in, so dont hook it up to a regulated 5v supply. After that, my only guess is you fried a part, check your parts with a multimeter to see if everythings connected. Sorry I cant be more help.

did all that. I'm going to use breadboard (really, that stuff is awesome) today and hopefully trace the problem.

I breadboarded the thing as I watched the debate (no flaming/politics, please) and thought I was done. I double checked the connections, and noticed a few things that were off. I took it downstairs, and the thing STILL woudn't run.

Then I looked back and saw it wasn't plugged in. I plugged her in, (that doesn't sound right...) went to Video 2 on the tv and...

It worked!!!

By the way, I think that part of the reason it didn't work in the first place is that some of the needed wires for making it work after being cut down had a lot of solder on it, and it may not have touched at the base, just the surace of the solder.
