There was a thread somewhere about new slots from Newark or Mouser or somewhere.

Re: hello!
Yeah, it really helps if you get the book before you join the forums and then you don't have to ask nooby questions, you already know a lot about electronics. Ben's book is defenitaly good if you decide to do any of the systems listed in his book, or if you need to LED mod a psone screen. It explains batteries pretty good in the book, check that out.

got the damn rf box off thank **** only took me 6 hours lol. Basically the books a bit vague here. do i have to get rid of the blue power reset ect ? theres also very little on the way of how u get the battery to the board ect :S am i being thick or is it the book?

Re: hello!
i got a 7.4 v 3600 mah bat knocking around, off an old rc car. i just dont understand what i connect it to once i make these

so i do this to the board( i added notes)
then i make this
for video amp
and both the video amp and regulator go to the 5+ pin on the board

Re: hello!
The video amp goes to the weak video out, +5V, and ground points. Is the battery Lithium-Polymer? If it is you better get a protection circuit before you use it in a portable.

Re: hello!
are they the ones that explode when over charged and not discharged properly? i'm probably going with nicads, as i like my house lol

Re: hello!
As long as you use a proper charger, they won't explode. Overdischarging usually just makes them completely useless.antrock101 wrote:are they the ones that explode when over charged and not discharged properly? i'm probably going with nicads, as i like my house lol
Don't use NiCd batteries. They are bad for the environment, have the "memory effect" and are crap for capacity. Use NiMH if you go with a NiXX battery.

Re: hello!
i went to maplins today to get soem help with parts, and as usual "the guy who knows this stuff is on his break" i cant find any of the parts i need not even the resistors. this is what i need
Medium-sized piece of perfboard (i found some copper board is that usable?)
7805 Regulator (From the RF box) got this
Heatsink (i have chunks of metal all over my house lol)
1,000uf Capacitor (can i use the big chunky one out of the rf box?)
Two 0.1uf Capacitors
1 - 10uf Capacitor (is this between those or both)
1N4001 Diode
2N4401 Amplifying Transistor
33ohm Resistor (Orange-Orange-Black-Gold)
220ohm Resistor (Red-Red-Brown-Gold)
i cant seem to find the ones i need, im not sure on the voltage needed or type are ceramic capacitors and high voltage resistors the right ones?
sorry to be a pain

Re: hello!
Perfboard- I have no idea what you mean by copper board. You can probably get away without it if you don't mind doing a lot of hand-wiring and use the original controller board.antrock101 wrote:i went to maplins today to get soem help with parts, and as usual "the guy who knows this stuff is on his break" i cant find any of the parts i need not even the resistors. this is what i need

Heatsink- You probably have some old piece of crap videocard heatsink that you can cut up.
1000uF Capacitor- This is kinda overkill probably, you might be able to reuse the old one. Is it swelling? What's the rating?
Smaller Caps- What do you mean by is it between those or both?
For capacitors 16V rating is probably enough. The 0.1uF are ceramic, the 10uF and 1000uF are electrolytic.
Diode- Why do you need a diode? Do you plan on plugging the battery in backwards?
Transistor- That's a common type, not weird or anything.
Resistors-Just normal little resistors. You want 1/4 or 1/2 watt.
That guy must be a serious moron, you gave him part numbers right?
