@cennar: What the copulate dude.

 I can even make out what half that crap is!

@bacteria: Anyways, you should make a Wii laptop like Ben's, except with the screen on the front instead of flipping back, and have a giant spike so you can drive it into the wall to have a wii portable you can mount into anything.

Or just accept the fact that you'll have to use the wiimote externally.

SS

EDIT: Edited because Skyone ruined my post after response by posting right before me. Clarification to the recipients of my post has been added.

SS - nah, if I can't get everything internal, control wise, i'm not interested; as to be a portable the controls must be integrated and also the only way the system can be useful as a handheld is if all the controls are integral to the case. No point having any external controller to wiggle about.

confirmed that the classic controller and the GC controller both work for the main Wii menu.

Oh yes, bacteria, if you do attempt this, make sure you test the screen before you start pulling the Wii apart.

Im not exactly sure if a PS1 screen will work on a wii...

I havent tested it yet...

EDIT:

For everyone, im going away on holidays tomorrow morning ( GMT +8:00 ) at around 6am...

Im going for 3 weeks

( can see in my mind palmertech jumping up and down yelling out YES!! YES!! YEAH!!!!! )

Cya all later...

And Bacteria, if you do end up starting this in that 3 weeks, good luck =D

For my obligatory "Boombox PAUUNCH, I would like to point out that of course the psone screen will work with the wii. Not only have people done it, but anybody with the knowledge to plug a game console into a TV could figure it out.

That said.....

No way! I guess nintendo DID listen to us and include an update to allow those controllers to be used. Too bad I don't want to update my system until I get the homebrew channel installed.

i may actually buy a cheap wii and hack it up for a gcp. i would use a gh3 controller snd a hacked wiimote to get to the disc channel, than play the gc game. may combine the wiring so you use one joystick for gc and wii menu.
Cheers,

why would you go through all that trouble if a GC controller will operate the main screen, (although i have yet to try this).

i dont see why a ps1 screen would not work on a wii. i had one ready to go but unfortunately fried my wii in the process, (fed it too much voltage). i recently got a replacement back and am cheating a bit by modding an actual "wii screen" with a battery pack.

I have yet to get the latest firmware update for the Wii, but for what I do have, the GC controller does not control the system screen.

edit: just updated to most recent firmware and GC controller does NOT work for the Wii menu.

totally derailed. this looks like the thought process that led me to play through Mario kart on a ps2 Guitar hero controller. I have to say most fun Ive had playing that lame ass controller on any thing. did not work so well setting it up for GTA however looked promising and great doing drive bys with a guitar

I think the thing with the wii is that you need to keep it essentaly a wii. a hand held wont work unless you can get a wireless Ir think to give you "distance" for the wiimote to judge. maby its like the laptops that have been made alreddy. Yet maby theres a better way. I think stereoscopic laptop wii is the next thing. there couldnt be much use of a Game boy sized wii that you can barly see because your whiping it around trying to play wii sports. though the pick up in play of the classic games needs to be mantained. So the classic controller works in the menu. The Wii mote works ten feet from the source, and its not a traditional system. How is it going to be packed down to a traditional handheld? my god ive got to get off my ass out of this ivory tower... dammit.. stereoscopic wii coming up.

sorry to bring up old threads if anyone is going to complain about this...

but, i was looking in a catalog for officeworks ( not sure if you have one ot those in the US or UK ) they are selling mini projectors for approx $450 AU you could always cram one of those into the portable to make it smaller...

but then you still have a problem with the sensor....

when i was writing the mini projector thing, this is what i was thinking:

"put the projector inside the wiimote nad use it like that!"

but then i remembered, you will need to cram all the wii and the sensor into it for it to work...

You would be swinging around the wiimote with a projector in it? How would that work? :?

If you were making a wii laptop with a projector, I have thought of that, and have an awesome solution to the problem that Bibin came up with. Secret for now.

As for selecting games, how is this for a though: Use a grid of 8x8 (Or more) SMT IR LEDs, set in front of the internal wiimote sensor, and by turning on different ones, you could move the cursor around! You could even calibrate the distance such that each press of a dpad would move it exactly one channel over. :D

Would work for some games that needs the wiimote as well, not all.

That seems like a really good idea.
But, wouldn't you have trouble if it's all that close to the IR reader?

Nope, it would actually make it easier!

The problems people have with being too close to the sensor bar is that the field of view for the IR sensor is only so big. Eventually, one of the LEDs drops off the side. With the LEDs that close together, it should work no problem. :D
