Eh, its just you. Apple doesnt "force" you to install anything. if you cant uncheck a checkbox, thats your fault.
and what did you do that you had to pay for an ipod update?

is it just me, or are the concepts and hype for the next generation of consoles running a tad overdue?

It depends on what games you're playing. Next-gen NHL (Hockey) games are really over and above anything on the old systems. The use of physics (especially puck physics) are beyond anything the old systems did. The analog controls for these games are spectacular. from deking with the joysticks, to poke-checking the puck, there is an amount of control you've never previously had in a hockey game.
On the Wii the hype is much more obvious when its been met. You start off with the game that came packaged with the Wii and that alone shows what the system is capable of. Move on to Metroid Prime 3 and Medal of Honor Heroes 2 for the great innovation of the FPS control system working spectacularly.
When all you play are first-person shooters, you won't notice too much advancement in the next-gen other than the graphics because there's not much TO innovate (when you're using the standard controls). Of course we're now getting to the point where we have fully interactive/destructible environments so they you will now start seeing some of that next-gen coming out in the newer FPS.

Is it just me or is it about damn time Nintendo churned out some more top-notch titles?

iPod Touch firmware, yeah. And even when it's unchecked, it's force-installed on my PC anyways half of the time. For a while there, they even called the update a "software package" and didn't allow it to be deselected...

Seriously, I can't believe any of you guys even own an iPod. I can't stand even touching them or any of their accessories.

I'm not a big fan of the new 3d sonic games; they don't feel like sonic should feel like.

Is it just me, or do good 2d platformers no longer exist?

I was gonna respond to this earlier but I didn't have a question to go along with it. Yes, fire is fun. by its very nature the way it gleefully dances around while inflicting pain upon others... what's not to entertain?

I agree that iPods suck. But not because of their capabilities. iPods suck because nearly everyone who owns one gets ones to be cool (Nearly everyone does not include us). They get the next iPod, which is exactly the same except for the fact that it's a little smaller and a little better, just because it comes out. Ipods suck because they put fashionability before reliability. (I'm afraid if I put one in my pocket it would snap in two). Ipods suck because Apple tries to control them way too much. (See: One provider for the iPhone, the need to Jailbreak iPods to get 'unofficial' applications on them, apparently the need to pay for upgrades now, and many other things)

That's just a few. I'm not going for a tl;dr here.

I will give Apple this: The iPod series, especially the lastest ones I've touched (the iPod touch) is actually a nice little piece of hardware. If they weren't so expensive and so delicate I would probably buy one. (ie. If I got handed one for free or cheap)

Electric Rain isn't TOO whiny.

Is it just me or are there way too many fanboys, young and old alike, who don't even realize they are so fanboyish if they looked fanboy up in the dictionary of fanboyism they'd find themselves there. (Not a picture of themselves. They'd actually BE in the definition).

This includes people who go "FPS' should be like they used to be. They new ones suck. Too many cutscenes." or "2D sidescrollers were waaay better back in the day", in addition to "Moaar cutscenes! Not enough brown."
