As for the Macbook Air, all of you prolly think it is ridiculously overpriced. If you look at the prices of other ultra-portable notebooks, it's a steal! And obviously to make it a bargain, and slimmer than the rest, there had to be some sacrifices.

It's not ultra-portable, it's just thin. It can't fit in the center console of my car, it can't slip in a bulky cargo pocket, it can't even fit in a small knapsack (or purse, for the ladies). I still have to haul around a big bag if I want to take it with me. Besides, if you're going to be spending that much on an ultra-portable notebook, get one that's got a processor that breaks 2GHz.

Come to think of it, with the onset of all these netbooks, (MSI Wind, EEE 901, Dell's new mini things, etc.) it's extremely hard to justify the Air, especially when they're cheaper and can even run OSX with a little bit of know-how.

If I were gonna get an ultra portable I'd probably go with one of those small eee's or something like that. thickness (relative to typical notebook thickness) is much less important in portability than the other two dimensions (my opinion, at least).

I'll stick to Microsoft when it comes to an Operating System.
Windows XP, and Windows Mojave.

It's not fair to compare the Mac Pro with a Wal-Mart Compaq. The Mac Pro is a high-end workstation aimed at a professional market, uses dual quad-core Intel Xeon processors by default, and comes with an OS and software that can take full advantage of them. Most consumer desktop PCs , on the other hand, just run middle-of-the-road Core 2 Duos with a 32 bit OS. For a fair comparison, you need to find another Wintel based dual Xeon workhorse.

Here's a comparison, matched as close as possible, feature-for-feature. If one had a better option than the other, the lesser was upgraded to match. Pick the Mac:

Mystery Computer #1 is the Mac Pro. Mystery Computer #2 is a Dell Precision T5400. The Mac obviously comes shipped with Lepoard, the Dell has Vista Ultimate, to roughly match features.

The only place Apple really makes you take it up the rear is when you upgrade the computer when you order it. Thankfully, it takes regular parts so you can build it up with off-the-shelf components.

But yes, the Air is a Jobs Vanity Device. Even I agree with that. Let's compare it to my beater laptop, just for kicks:

funny thing about that mojave experiment (which is BS anyways since its in a controlled environment), but the servers that they use to show their mojave experiment to the world run on linux.

the EEE 700, EEE 900,EEE 1000, MSI wind, HP mininote, cloudbook, and all models of kojinsha notebook ALL cost under 1000$ and all have at least a 1ghz processor and 512mb ram, most are intel ATOM 1.6ghz and 1-2gb ram. sure they arent as powerful as the Air (which isnt an ultraportable at all because it has a 12" screen, to be an ultra portable laptop it has to be sub 10" lcd size) but considering most of these are SMALLER (maybe not thinner) and cost half as much

If it's a workstation where you'd be making a living with it, yes a Mac Pro is the godsend of pc, but if it's your average joe then a Mac is something they'd have to drop some of their kid's college fund on it. I know that most of the general populous doesn't give a damn about it unless they heard good things. I just think that they're overrated because they're just pretty and fun if you like work or video editing.
